Unofficial writing assignment: Shared moment
(Oh come on, like you didn't see THAT coming!)
Silently they walked side by side, Toreador domain tonight. Both eyes scanned their surroundings as they moved, watching for anything untoward – prepared to find the worst, but hopeful that they found nothing.
Loudly the thunder clapped above as the sky crackled with a bright crash of lighting. They both stopped their trek and looked up at the sky. Nothing was said, just the shared moment of experiencing the awe inspiring act of nature together.
His gentle smile beckoned her gaze, causing her own lips to curl into a peaceful smile. Still no words, just shared thoughts that went unspoken. His hand slipped over hers as they prepared to continue the aimless but diligent patrol.
But it was the incandescent light that glowed from the device in her hand that caught her eye first. Looking down she saw the alert and squeezed his hand to stay him once more.
Holding up the phone worry struck her face.
The thunder and lightning woke Brendan, he’s scared and can’t go back to sleep. He’s asking for you both.
He read the screen and nodded sagely, knowing their new destination.
Her fingers dexterously drew across the small keys of her phone.
We’re on our way.
