Welcome to UBBC 101
When you're writing an article or posting a comment in the forum, there may be buttons at the bottom of the composition area. These buttons allow you to format your message with some attractive accents. The tags used to create these formatting effects are called UBBC (Universal Bulletin Board Code).
All UBBC tags and smilies are just bracketed letters or words that make your posts or articles "pretty". If you want a word to stand out, before you type the word, type a bracket then the letter b and then a closing bracket. Now type the word you want to be bold like this:
Alternately, you can just click the button... but be warned... the code for that button will be placed wherever your cursor is blinking and you may need to then insert the text you want to change after that. You'll soon come to prefer typing the codes rather than clicking their icons, if you're like most people. It's easy to remember the basic codes. I mean: I is for talics. U means underline... and so on.
You can center your text, or right align it. You can put in an email address that is hyperlinked, as well. The rule to using UBBC is that anything you open, you close again. So, for every bracketed item, you have to close with a bracketed "slash" item.
The following is a list of the UBBC tags and what effects they'll produce. Both the open and close tag for each formatting feature is included in these examples.
Now look at them activated:
Bold Text.
Italic Text.
Underline Text.
[glow=red,2,300]Glowing Text.[/glow]Subscript.
[shadow=red,left,300]Shadow Text.[/shadow]
Font Face Text
Strikethrough.
Subscript.
Superscript.

As you can see, using a ton of tags in a post could be a little annoying, so it's probably a good idea not to go crazy with UBBC tags in posts.
Advanced Uses of UBBC
Using Multiple Tags
You can use multiple tags to create various effects. Just remember to close all your tags in reverse order when you're done with them! For example, to make the phrase "I love this place" bold, italics, underlined and red, the code would look like this: (Remember... tags are always closed in the opposite order in which they were opened...) So:
Creating Named Links
A common request I get is "How do I name my links?"
So say I want www.emeraldcitychronicles.com/45358/index.html (which is the storytellers page for the vampire game to say 'Vampire STs' instead of that long url.
Here's the code for that:
Using Tables
You can also create tables. So say I want to create a table of organized data. The best way to do this is to use the Create Table button . You can select the number of rows and columns (rows go left to right and columns go up down) and it will create a bunch of code for you to insert your data into.
Say I want to list some data, like who will be at the coffee shop throughout the week. I have 7 people and 7 days in a week, so I'll create a table with 2 rows and 7 columns (one extra one for the 'title' of the columns).
When I do that, the code looks like this:
Please feel free to ask questions about buttons or UBBC calls.
Thanks!

Word
After typing the word(s) you want to stand out, close the tag. Type a bracket then a forward slash (on the question mark key, unshifted) like this / and a closed bracket like this: Word
...Then continue typing your text. Alternately, you can just click the button... but be warned... the code for that button will be placed wherever your cursor is blinking and you may need to then insert the text you want to change after that. Bold Text.
Italic Text.
Underline Text.
[glow=red,2,300][/glow] This one is interesting, it's got a combination of color (red), size of the 'glow' (2) and intensity of the effect (300 how much white is in it). You can play with these settings to get different effects.
[shadow=red,left,300][/shadow] Another one with settings within it like glow, only it leaves a background effect.
[move][/move] Moving Text. Text scrolls across the screen like a ticker.
Horizontal Rule. Creates a line in between portions of text.
Verdana is the default font used on these boards. You could replace it with other fonts like Times New Roman for example to get different text effects. If the end user doesn't have that font though, they won't see the text correctly.
[blockquote][/blockquote] Add an indent.
[sub][/sub] Subscript.
[sup][/sup] Superscript.
[strike][/strike] Strikethrough.
[pre][/pre] Preformatted Text.
Add a URL Link.
Align Left.
Center Text.
Align Right.
[img][/img] Add an Image.
Add an E-Mail Link.

Add Quote.
[ul][li][/li][/ul] Make a List. Any text with a bracketed asterisk will be a bullet point. To add more bulleted items, just add more bracketed asterisks, like this [/li][li]
Change the color of the text. Type in the word for the color you want to use after the equal sign in the first tag. For example, , , etc. By placing the 'name' of the video in the URL, you can embed Youtube videos in your posts, for example, if I want to insert the video located here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_nTlsTK7qo then the correct code would be
I've used the word 'code' above with an opening and closing tag as well so the codes don't actually activate in the post while I'm trying to explain them. I should also note that in the activated examples below, I've moved portions of text inside the tags, so I haven't just posted the above code as-is to get the code below.Now look at them activated:
Bold Text.
Italic Text.
Underline Text.
[glow=red,2,300]Glowing Text.[/glow]Subscript.
[shadow=red,left,300]Shadow Text.[/shadow]
Font Face Text
Add an Indent.
Subscript.
Superscript.
Preformatted Text.www.emeraldchronicles.com (add link)
Align Left.
Center Text.
Align Right.
