LARPers and cosplayers are two separate subcultures within the greater geek culture. It's not accurate to say they're the same, but from an outsider's perspective, both would seem closely linked.

Same thing with the term "Japanimation" -- for people who don't live in geek culture, the term is still used. "Anime" is mainstreaming, yes, but not everyone is yet familiar with the term.

We're not really the target audience here.

So? Accuracy in media is important. It would have taken very little research to realize that cosplay and LARP are separate beasts.; this reads like the author just slapped together any old bullshit and some half-understood commentary from her nerd sources.
