It was only an hour before sunrise but Sarah was still in her gothic finery and smiling. The cats sneezed at the smell of cigarettes and cloves on her clothing, making their disapproval known. Sarah merely scratched the nearest one under the chin as she ran through her memories of the evening.
Caroline certainly dressed up well. Getting her out of the too-proper Elysium, and the jazz club they frequented, was the right thing to do. She had relaxed into the darkened, smoky atmosphere of the private goth club. It had been a very good evening.
Again and again, Sarah played over the memories of her arm around Caroline’s waist and the sensation of Caroline resting her head on Sarah’s shoulder. Sitting side-by-side where no one important could see them, they had enjoyed the dancing and each other’s company.
It was something she would remember… and protect.
Sarah’s sudden bright laughter startled a couple of the nearest cats into puffed tails and narrowed eyes. This amused her all the more.
“Well, it looks like business will be liberally mixed with pleasure where Carrie’s concerned.”
