I met with Cheryl today and learned some sad and disturbing things, I felt that the community needed to be aware, and Cheryl agreed to let me tell you all.
As some of you know, but many do not, EC has had a long standing relationship with the Renton Civic Theater and Mad Dog Productions. Cheryl Olin has let us borrow professional theatrical props FOR FREE for our own events and for the Haunted House. In exchange, we usually help them out about once or twice a year with a basic clean up.
THIS IS DIFFERENT
Renton Civic Theater and Mad Dog are parting ways, and unfourtunately, our friend Cheryl is in a really tough spot. Her props are being threatened with destruction. They've been put in places to rot, set in fire pits for burning and trashed.
This is now a RESCUE MISSION. The first two weekends in August, Cheryl and the Renton Civic Theater will be taking their props and moving them to Newcastle, where they will be closer to their own Theater and safe from the destructive threats of the remaining Mad Dog staff.
WHEN: Aug 2-4 & 9-11 Fri, Sat, Sun 10a-5p
WHERE: Mad Dog Prop Shop
NE 47th Pl, Redmond, WA 98053
WHY: To rescue Cheryl and her props.
WHO: Cheryl says she needs 10-20 people each day.
People who can:
do basic handyman work (operate a power drill, fix minor hardware breaks),
do artsy-craftsy stuff (repair or touch up props with paint, craft foam, glue etc),
sew (not costumes, just basic seams and hems, restoring curtains, reattaching doll heads, etc),
are willing to help cart things to newcastle (especially if you can loan your truck to the effort)
people who can sort props into good/broken, and make sure things are all in their proper bins
there will be a little cleaning, but mostly this is about sorting and repairing the props so they can be safely relocated.
Cheryl is forgoing her own budget for several months to supply volunteers with food and drink while they work. not just pizza but breakfast and coffee, snacks and maybe something *special at the end of each day.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help out. If Cheryl can't get her props rescued, not only will this be a horrible tragedy for her and the Renton Civic Theater, but for EC and the BGC who depends on us for the Haunted House as well.
Let me know WHEN you can participate, WHAT you can do
If you need a ride or are willing to give rides, post that too.
this is IMPORTANT.
please.
