For Eyes-Only Release
Regarding the Perceived Political Inclinations of the Children of Haqim within the Emerald Domain
Seattle, Washington, United States, North America - 01 January, 2017
Word has consistently reached my ears these past months, laden with speculative conjecture on the aspirations and inclinations of myself and my clan-mates. This has understandably been aggravated by the turmoil and change that has beset our Domain, and the pronounced belief of others, while sufficient events have occurred to deem the addressing of these beliefs to others necessary.
The accusations that have been conveyed from mouth to ear, repeated with sufficient frequency and fervor to find their way through each of my clan mates has centered on a perceived pursuit for power on the part of myself and each of those that are considered relations. While understandable due to the timeless machinations of the Jyhad that we find ourselves subject to, regardless of such knowingly or willingly, the intention I find myself attempting to convey is to assuage that concern.
Our place near the venerable Pillar clans of the Ivory Tower is an oddity, for certain. When the Tower was built, our number did not join in any significant numbers. Moreover, for each of us that exist among its numbers, each are burdened with condition and threat over our existence, as punishment for actions that occurred in recent history. We understand those limitations and the unspoken ones that accompany them, electing to perform our respective duties as best we are capable in spite of those mystic and social restraints enacted by others.
Since my personal arrival to the Emerald Domain, we have resisted appointment to position and station at near every juncture. To put it simply, our place is not to direct these Pillar clans -- but to make up for shortcomings or gaps when they are suffered by calamity or elevation, until another fitting has been identified, proven, and elevated to the position needed by the Tower, of its trusted Pillars. At the peak need, three of six direct-appointed positions were held, and one could easily weep for the tragedy suffered by the venerable High Clans that would have precipitated that need, and I pray that each find an expedient recovery to their respective places of prominence.
To this point, I will identify our singular and collective stance on the irregular election of our new Praxis claimant. Our position is one of synonymous with the demands and needs of the Sect at large: Tradition and Stability. Of the presented three options, our preference was given to none, contrary to what has been presented by one of the two Harpies. While there was certainly interest in the result, it could not be weighed into the decision for two reasons. The first being Tradition. A Prince declares their Praxis seizure of a domain and defends it until their death or departure, and while one of the three did so, it is unfortunate that their age and standing was insufficient to do so in the eyes of the sect-at-large. The second reason being that our blood is not what keeps the Tower standing, nor Ivory. While each of our number wields significant political clout, it would be untoward to tell those whose lineage-in-majority built and supports the walls that we all shelter within.
While I do expect that our venerable Seneschal will grow to prominence and station in time, to have done so this early would have resulted in an untimely demise of their person and their supporters due to the nature of their age and experience. I do expect their actions in these coming years to embody those machinations, and the Seneschal's actions to take hold of many pieces on the board of ages.
And with the elevation from Sheriff to Duke, we will watch with hopeful eyes that the new Sheriff will have improved sufficiently to preclude our later involvement. Activities that have led his prior home in Bellingham to be a stronghold for the Sword, or a southern border incapable of providing even advanced notice of violation must have departed. Gone, too, must be the activities that involve execution of centuries-old agents of the Sword, without so much as cursory questioning. This new Sheriff must learn and change quickly, or I fear that he and others will suffer at the fangs-and-claws of those he is to defend the jewel of the north western United States against.
We were brought to existence to advise and mediate, and while necessity through the ages has provided diversification of those skills, our number are still well acquainted with the role we present to our society. All that would be asked of those within the domain we share is that you each learn when education is presented, to prove that you are better than what you were night to night. Without that improvement, that ambition and drive, the test of time will surely be lost and each will devolve to beast.
