This came up in another thread and it was suggested that I make it its own thread.
For the 7 years I have been at this game including my year on staff I have noticed an extreme atmosphere of mistrust. Players do not trust each other. Players do not trust staff and that in turn makes it harder for staff to trust players. This is an extremely unhealthy atmosphere for our game. It does only a disservice to our game and our community.
The intent of this is not to cast blame. Everyone at this game has done their part to contribute to this unhealthy atmosphere at one point or another, very much including myself. Well, I'm sick of it. How about you?
But there is hope. This doesn't have to be the atmosphere of this game if we don't want it to be. We made this unhealthy environment and we can change it.
I hereby promise to make my best attempt from now on to be more trusting of staff and other players. This means not jumping to conclusions of cheating or meta gaming unless VERY compelling evidence presents itself. It means not assuming that be cause something bad happened to my character that it means staff nor another player is out to get me OOC. It means giving other players the benefit of the doubt that the actions they take really are just them playing their characters even if I can't see the reasons or justifications for their actions. And finally it means lightening up and remembering that this is a game, and no game is worth endangering the friendships I have with the people in this community.
I can't promise to always succeed in this promise, but I promise to try my hardest to keep it and not let myself fall back to old ways of thinking.
Anyone who wishes to join me in attempting to change the culture of his game into something more healthy, sign on to this pledge with me. I truly believe if enough of us make the effort we can change this game's culture and be left with a far better community for it.
