"You have sinned, Athro. And your punishment would be death if your Sept could spare you. Your loyalty to them speaks loudly and your reputation brings our tribe honor. Even so, you cannot be spared punishment. ...You will not be stripped of your power, but you must prove worthy of it. Prove to me and to your Sept, and all the rest of your tribe that you deserve to live, and to lead, and I will not be forced to kill you..."
Daitaro had borne the words and did not flinch. He'd felt the effects of many of his tribes gifts at work on him, and yet did not lower his gaze. Yuri stood a full foot taller than he did, and his eyes showed all the power and authority of his station. Yet, as the frost of his words stuck to him, he remained unmoving, unbending. He had sinned, and yet, his choice was the wiser. Surely, his tribe was wont to hypocrisy.
The old are blind. All the misguided garou who regarded him as narrow-minded knew nothing of the rest of his tribe, and of the Mar-grave.
It was Daitaro who strengthened his Sept, once misguided malcontents. And though not every one of them yet a hardened warrior, most were on the right path. Admittedly, it was not possible without the help of Jack, whose powers of expression and speech had been an important asset. He knew, without asking, Daitaro's ambitions for unity, and had set about it in a way he never could. But an Ahroun's power lies in immediate decision-making. Not in the subtle coaxing of the ragabash.
The bowl of Daitaro's Kiseru glowed orange and smoke wafted into the night air. The lake was calm, and Jack had just left, seemingly in a hurry. Perhaps he has his own matters to settle. As he silently contemplated what misinformed miscreant had it in for Jack's head this time, he began to wonder about the Legend's indeterminate orders, and a different thought occurred to him. The Shadowlords were not known for their forthrightness, a trait which appalled the Grand Elder, but meaningful, nonetheless. Even given The shadowlords' reputation for disreputable and suspicious dealings was a necessary utility to the Nation.
It's likely, then, that his words were not as fraught with disappointment as he had originally interpreted. "You show promise..."
He was beginning to understand what his words had meant. The message made him angry, but he understood. It was a clarifying rage. He knew that he did deserve his rank and position. That it wasn't to himself or to the Mar-grave he had to prove himself, but to his Sept, who even against the Rhya's threats, he had defiantly defended.
The Grand Elder knocked his Kiseru against the stoop of the recessed steps of the bunker, causing the fine ash to fall onto the wet concrete walkway.
"I understand now, you old drag..."
His meditation completed, Daitaro retired to his dorm, a little more hopeful of his situation. Butch has been taken care of... Time to decide what to do with Novatech.
(OOC note: This scene will take place after the current time-freeze, but before a week passes after the Mar-grave's arrival. Also it's implied that the punishment for Butch has been resolved. Given that ooc reasons prevented us from taking IC actions against his character, I think most involved would agree it would not have taken as long as it has to resolve the matter. We'll have a scene IC about the final decision.)
