The rain pelted the ground behind them, covering their escape. Ulrim had expected nothing but death, nothing but death by cold iron. Aislinn... he thought, as he and his mysterious savior fled under the cover of the storm. Aislinn, how could you do this to me? If Ulrim ever cried, he would have there. Instead, years of instinct, years of training, turned grief in to rage.
The Society of Leopold would fall. And if the Dreaming willed it, Aislinn would fall, too, for being the Judas that nearly led him to the slaughter.
It had been a masterful ambush. The society had him surrounded completely in the park... and Aislinn had lured him right in to their net. She was a good enough actor to even be sobbing.
He looked at his savior carefully. He had seen him before once or twice... A sidhe duke named simply, Count K.

"I'm in here, you damn idiot." Cineris said calmly from the bathroom. Ulrim, confused, stretched in the morning sun, stood, and walked over to the door, opening it. There, in his bucket, was poor Cineris, looking more angry than Ulrim could remember him being in quite a while.
"What happened, old friend?" Ulrim asked, concerned.
"Oh don't you 'old friend' me... Why don't you ask your 'new friend', the Stellarjay?"
Perturbed, Ulrim glanced around again. "Why, Cineris? What happened?"
"Ulrim, you were robbed, you damn fool."
