Research log of Sheila Cooper, a.k.a. Nogah, Knight of House Dougal. Sunday, December 3, 2010, 4:00am.
Setup of the laboratory goes well. While there are very few chimera present as of yet, there are a few popping up. This delay is to be expected, as per Wiseman's paper to the Bes Din, January 4, 1995. I consider this further proof of Wiseman's proposal that the draw of the chimerical magnet is a slow and steady process outside of Chrysalis. There will be subjects enough forthcoming; I am patient.
A new research subject has presented himself in the Satyr known as Johnny. He has no memory of either his fae or human life, and while I cannot see any sort of odd Glamour about him he does manifest the ability to use Metamorphosis. I hope to be able to learn this Art from him, as it's utterly fascinating. The Eshu Nissa has also offered to teach me Pyretics, which has also been an interest of mine for years. The expansion of my knowledge of the Arts beyond Infusion is sure to further my research.
No other new research presents itself as of yet, though I hear rumblings of oddities about the town, and there is a Changeling about to Chrysalize. I had hoped to be present for this but that may not happen; an opportunity gone to waste to be sure, but the good of the girl unfortunately trumps my research. The Troll Baron whose household I am joining will be having a child soon, by a Pooka, and I hope to at least see if I can tell whether the child will be fae or Kinain, and what kith it may be. Beyond that, of course, I'm not about to do true research on a baby, but I'm interested to see if I can at least do that much.
I will be shortly working on a project that I would prefer to be able to make into golems: a pair of clockwork ravens. I will make them as autonomous as I can, using FUBARs for power sources, and if I can push the ability of non-golems to have seeming autonomy as far as I hope, I may have to present the patent when communication with the Bes Din is prudent.
A note, on the use of Fair is Foul and Foul is Fair and the subject of Chrysalis: it becomes more and more clear that predicting anything to do with Glamour is a chancy endeavour at best, and that trying to keep a Changeling safe from chimera before Chrysalis is a path to postponing said Chrysalis. Perhaps I shouldn't be there when her cherry pops after all.
The subject Mat Shaw continues to be an enigma wrapped in a mystery. The ties to his older and newer legends continue to be muddled, and the inconsistencies remain fascinating but impossible to penetrate. He continues to refuse my requests to study his amulet, much to my dismay, but I will soon get my hands on the ashandarei, as he has asked me to use Infusion to make it impervious to harm. This is, of course, appropriate for the weapon, but I am curious as to any further uses it may have.
I feel badly for suggesting that he lose his eye, but this seems to be to be the final major component of the legend that he lacks (beyond wisdom of course!!) and I am wondering if it will make any change in his Glamour. If it does, it's possible I will finally be able to make sense of the tangle.
The mouse Pooka Shika may prove very useful in this matter. I have yet to find any other record of such a subject in any of the papers I have studied, but I suspect this is due to the difficulty in pinning down Eshu for research than any lack of other occurences of the oddity. I suspect that Sidhe may be prone to the links as well, but would again be difficult to study. Trolls and Recaps are tertiary possibilities, but likely rare. In any case, if Shika can help me get my hands on other material regarding the subject, I will possibly make further headway in understanding it all.
The latest flaw in one of my creations: a lime green color on a mechanical leg made for a new member of House Dougal. Annoying, but only cosmetic. I will re-calculate the percentages accordingly.
Just swore a major Oath to research subject Mat Shaw; beyond studying the nature of said Oath, I will need to be sure I request an impartial observer to go over my research when I'm ready to present my paper to the Bes Din. I wouldn't want to be accused of having conflicting interests.
Always in service to House Dougal and the Bes Din,
