Research log of Sheila Cooper, a.k.a. Nogah, Knight of House Dougal. Sunday, December 19, 2010, 10:00 pm.
My laboratory is excellent, though I do wish it was located in a freehold for a variety of reasons. The only freehold currently available for a workshop is not an option due to a variety of reasons, not least because I would have little control of my own projects there. Which is a political matter and not in the scope of this journal.
Most recently I completed my clockwork ravens. I find them to be excellent creations, quite able to fly. There is the little matter that they will need to be fed blood on a regular basis but that is appropriate for a flaw. I hope to eventually make them able to go and retrieve information for their owner, but that is something to do when I am able to retrieve the proper materials. I have named the ravens Huginn and Muninn ("thought" and "memory") as they are based off of Odin's raven companions. Further tinkering (or golem replacements) will, hopefully, continue the theme of the sort of shamanic vision-trances Odin may have embarked on, possibly helping their owner in his quests to retrieve information from his past lives.
In relation to Mat Shaw, he has finally allowed me to examine his amulet. I have found that it is not a true Treasure, but some other different form of magic. It generally replicates the abilities of the Art of Naming, specifically the third level of the Art, Runic Circle. This has led me to further research Naming, which is a fascinating Art. Though I'm sure no sidhe would ever teach it to me as it is a Noble Art, I would dearly love to learn its secrets. I have never wanted Sovereign (such control over people is a sidhe matter, not mine), but Naming has so many other uses! A faint dream; perhaps one day it will be fulfilled. Not likely, however.
Also, he did not lose his eye, keeping me from being able to study those effects. I hope that Huginn and Muninn may be able to help in some fashion.
I will be getting my hands on the first two levels of Metamorphosis, however, as payment for a commission. I'm looking forward to learning this quite rare Art; useful, and also worth studying. The commission in question is the most difficult I have ever attempted, a wonderful challenge that is testing all of my abilities. I'm rather enjoying making it.
Mat's ashandarei has been Toughened, and rather well, I must say. I'm doing well in my crafting considering my laboratory is not in a freehold. I am also crafting a Treasure for Baron Ulrim's freehold, a fence that will hold Weaver Ward as a defense. Progress on that Treasure proceeds apace, but it's a rather easy task. I strive to do my best nonetheless.
My newest work will be a dress for the local Reeve, Helen DuMond, which she'd like to look like dragon scales. I'm not certain if I will be able to find or barter for actual dragon's scales but I may find another, still appropriate material, however. I will have to think on the matter. There are options for aluminum scales for making scale mail; not practical but very pretty...
I am kept wonderfully busy here, but I ought to make myself a proper sword and armor, and learn to use them. I am a Knight, and I've been remiss. I will speak to Mat or Helen about training. I hope that I am doing well, out here on my own, and giving a good name to Nockers and House Dougal.
I have chimera quite settled in my apartment now. My two favorites, and the ones that come by most often are a little lion cub and an owl. They are both rather friendly and Mat's taken a liking to them. Otherwise chimera come and go, leaving little opportunity for good study.
I am also getting into contact with the closest Dougal Countess, Marged Ifan. I hope to enter into a good creative and social rapport, as befits house-mates.
Always in service to House Dougal and the Bes Din,
Dame Nogah, House Dougal
