Anthem sat neatly atop the roof of Ulrim's house, watching what she could see of the sunset. The clouds made it a bit more of a guessing game. She hadn't checked the papers for the actual time. Maybe Sheila could have told her if she went back down to ask, but she was pretty sure the Knocker had already gone off with Mat for their own festivities. Besides, she didn't want to risk missing it. Tonight would be the longest period without the sun this year, and just as she and her parents who celebrated both the Solstice and Christmas had always done, she would see it off.
Something had seemed off since her Crysalis. she was somewhat confident that she would remember so much more than she currently did. Some things became clear with the right reminders and cues, but so much was still missing. She knew if she could get home and talk to her mom, she'd find something vital for sure.
Something nagged at her there too. A sense of dread, though she wasn't sure of what. She pushed it down for the umpteenth time.
She was still trying to find her place here. Everyone had so quickly dropped what they were doing to prepare to defend her. She had been touched by the immediate acceptance and care she received from so many of these recent strangers. Now it was time for her to figure out what role she could play in their war now that she was no longer the defenseless "pet human".
Problem was, without certain knowledges, she still found herself feeling quite defenseless. But, for the time being, Ulrim was providing her with a safe enough place to stay while she explored her new nature and the abilities that came with it, and Mat was often around to give her a ride whenever she needed to get out for a while.
Her time spent with another of the Elegbara had helped her understand some of the arts that had come with the change, and she was quickly becoming more confident in them. She was concerned however that she still didn't have any idea what to do with herself in a fight. Her Fae seeming, like her mortal one, seemed built to run more than anything else.
She reflected back on the alley-way where it had all gone down. the best she had been able to do was draw the chimera in something resembling a line for easier attack, but without Simon there, she would have been doomed.
She would likely have to learn to fight, though she was not sure what would best suit her.
She pondered this for a bit. The answer was near, she felt; it just needed a proper bit of reflection.
She closed her eyes and breathed for a minute.
when that didn't work she tried standing on her head.
That seemed to help, as the pieces suddenly fell into place.
She would ask Ulrim to teach her how to heal others, while Mat and the others of her kith could perhaps help her to perfect her abilities of travel. Parkour after all, her chosen lifestyle, was all about getting where one needed to go in the most efficient manner; what better application in a war than getting to injured allies?
She smiled, content with this path opening before her as she righted herself.
It seemed also that the solving of one puzzle had helped her to formulate an approach for another... or perhaps it was overconfidence at work... or maybe the residual head rush of being upside down. Time would tell very soon; her mind was quite made up.
She waved goodbye to the last traces of the day's sunlight as she lit the candle she had picked up at Pike Place earlier.
"Hurry back," she said, turning to find her way back down.
