You've seen them all before.. They raise their hand and nom someone for REACTING to something they did. Usually they tell an overly long, boring story that is not nearly as witty or as socially astounding as they think, and then mention the other person's fantastic blank faced reaction.
And, lets not pretend that we don't all know why they spent their nom on this.. It's because they want you to hear about some odd, and most often poorly delivered moment in their RP that night that they feel particularly proud of.
Well, I have something to say to people like this..
If the moment was that great, THEY WOULD HAVE NOMMED YOU FOR IT!
You don't need to make yourself and the other person look like a total ass just so you can tell some slightly annoying story that when it comes down to it, none of us really need to hear.
Noms are for recognizing the great RP of OTHERS. They are NOT an excuse for you to tell stories about your own RP...
How hard is that to understand?
There are plenty of people that hang around after game that you could tell your little stories to, or even take a few friends from game to Denny's and tell it there.. but don't bog down the nomming times in post-mortem, keeping people who are only still there to nom actually GOOD role players, just so that you can pump your own ego and hopefully get a pat on the back or something.
Example of a GOOD nom:
"I was role playing with [blank] when I said, "[random BS]," and then they said, "[Insert somewhat witty punchline here]!"
Note: The actual witty/well spoken line came from SOMEONE ELSE.
Example of a BAD nom:
"I was talking with [blank] when she said, "[random words that we semi-care about]," and then I said, "[something that the person thinks is funny, but generally isn't]!"
Note: The comment that was supposed to be praised is NOT from the person actually being nommed!
We have a TON of GREAT role players here at ECC, if you truly want to use your noms, it's REALLY not hard to find a great role player to give you a good situation in which to nom them.
Moral of the story;
Nom someone for what THEY did, not what YOU did.
It's not that hard, so lets give it a try..
