Lightbringer sat in the Caern's heart in quiet meditation. The events of the last few weeks required reflection. Required thought before action. Now that Luna's face was slumping out of the sky, and the Ali'i Rage calmed, he could think again.
Johnny Chaos was grand elder. A poorer choice, Lightbringer would be hard to find. A pack of one, who wandered off. A pack tied to a cunning totem, who had sheltered a Nuwisha. A man who was born under no moon and fit the stereotype to perfection. A crafty warrior like that was built to avoid leadership if ever there was a Gaia.
Visili had been challenged for Morgan's guardianship; an unfortunate slight against Guy that could not be helped. What was done was done; the challenge would be resolved and that would be that. Still, a part of him had regretted the necessity of it all. Any fool could see he cared too deeply to allow her the freedom she needed to assist the Caern- and sending Guy along each time was out off the question. He had terrible foot-in-mouth disease.
There was a Moot to plan for, and a Taskforce to build. Both required a degree of his attention that was too valuable to squander. Last minute preparations were underway even as he sat in thought.
And heaviest of all sat the weight of Thalia and the burden her corpse was on Orions heart. Had the Deep Skies alpha made a mistake? It was not the Uktena's place to say. Would Lightbringer have lead the Load-Bearers into that same fight? Only if no other options had been available. Charging an enemy without proper intelligence work was not what had lead to him retaining the Warder responsibilities even in the face of enemy action.
56 enemies, Carries had said. At least four Elders in just the first wave. Who could say how many Adren and Athro? Considering what they had faced, it was nothing less then a crushing victory. Three enemy Elders lay dead, at least three Adren and an Athro. All at the cost of a single Galliard. Tactically it was a sound victory.
Tactically.
In reality, the enemy now knew the strongest threats they would face. And the children of Volcano would become reckless in their grief. Lightbringer had no doubt that if True-Heart had not been present, no Volcano would have left that scene alive. And the enemies knew their face.
The Warder sighed quietly and begins to sketch out the battlefield from memory. Little details would be lost, but as much as could be preserved of the encounter must be. War was coming regardless of Johnny's desires.
