As stated in our bylaws, we hold elections for Board members - Board members aren't Board members forever. While current Board members can run for re-election, they have to actually run for re-election, meaning somebody else running can be voted in instead if the Members would rather see somebody else serve. Standing Board members have to step down or run for re-election every other year on a staggered basis. This is so the whole staff doesn't get voted out at once.
The part from the bylaws where it talks about this:
3.4.2 Successor Directors
One half of the successor directors (rounded up if it's an odd number) will be elected at the second annual meeting and every other year after that. The other half (rounded down if it's an odd number) of the successor directors will be elected at the third annual meeting and every other year after that.
If you would like to run for a Director position, please check out the post in this forum about the Bylaws, which explains who the Directors are and what they do. It is a lot of responsibility but it is very rewarding.
Please also remember Board positions are not the same as Officers, though in our case our Board members are also Officers. The differences are explained in our Bylaws, but in short, it's not like an ASB election where you run for Secretary or President. The Board elects the Officers, the Membership elects the Board.
