I cannot understand how anyone voted in the Vampire sphere to approve the ridiculous "Madsen as Northwest Regent" change. It's completely ridiculous.
See that? That means the Prince rules what he can hold. Can't hold it? Then you aren't Prince. And making it so the Prince reports to some regional co-ordinator is counter to that. This is saying that Vampires should ignore the second tradition, because some bureaucratic edict says Madsen controls the PacNW, so therefore he does. If he really is in charge, let him be in charge. If he's a functionary, a steward, then call it such.
I understand the story reasons, Bowsley Doctrine and all that. But honestly I haven't seen anyone mention it IC. If this is just to have another political position a player can fill, great. But borrow from NWoD and use the Herald title, don't castrate a position. If the reasoning is, "we want to make a PC Prince but avoid "Prince of the Week" (a valid concern), this is wrong way to do it.
If the Prince still has Rite of Destruction and answers to no man, as claimed, then this is a callow way to get around people gunning for him. If they're installed by popular vote, that's even worse and antithetical to one of the major themes (feudalism is alive and well) of Masquerade. And we're supposed to believe Prince Sigmund of Vancouver and whoever is Prince of Portland went along with this? What about Tacoma's Baron, is he OK being under the auspices of a "Regional Prince"? Especially one that specifically brokered a land deal granting the Baron his property?
If the Prince is nothing more than a puppet, why should anyone listen to him, or appeal to him, especially characters with Allies in the higher echelons of Kindred society? This fraud is just a puppet anyway.
This whole plotline is dumb and I hate it. I am very mad about fake vampires.
The fact that the Brujah characters are split between "don't care" and "we support this idea" is even more stupefying. Why would the clan that fought, tooth and nail, for their freedom be totally on-board with the idea of yet another layer of bureaucracy getting between them and power? Brujah are supposed to be the other "political" clan, along with the Ventrue. LOYAL OPPOSITION MUCH?
If I were to put my money where my mouth is, I'd spend the next year playing a Ventrue, nice and quiet and friendly, garnering support and allies, getting myself a position of power and transitioning into the princedom, and then immediately IC deny Madsen's rule and tell the Camarilla at large to fuck off, that I reject the Bowsley Doctrine. And anyone who doesn't like it can take me out. Because that's what the Prince means - if you can hold it, it's yours.
The Second Tradition: the Domain
Thy Domain is thy own concern.
All others owe thee respect while in it.
None may challenge thy word in thy Domain.
