Moira’s hands popped the wax seal on the scroll deftly, unrolling it and scanning the elegant script with unseemly haste. In the past fifteen years, she had all but fished out the little portion of the sea here in Berkeley; she needed someplace new, with new opportunities to learn. Though chronologically 22 now, significant time in Freeholds left her looking a fresh 16 or 17; she was still a Wilder, heart and soul, still reaching toward the height of her power and skill. So she had asked Duke Guile, her mentor, to find her an opportune new place to live and work. As a Baroness, she was not free to move anywhere she pleased; there were politics to be tended, and Duke Guile would make sure that the proper requests and notices were made, and that a place for her was available.
She blinked, reading and then rereading the fluid calligraphy (and that was something else she’d never learned, though she somehow thought she really ought to). Seattle? Really? Her perfect memory reviewed everything she’d heard about the place, and she found herself by equal measures delighted and appalled. Seattle was in a state of declared war, and sidhe nobles, especially Barons and Baronesses, seemed to die or leave with depressing regularity. But on the other hand…it boasted a Trod that opened on various portions of the Dreaming in a seemingly random fashion, diplomatic ties to both Kindred and Garou, alliances with at least a few local Mages, a reliable report of Changeling Wraiths (now resolved, alas), an active contingent of Shadow Court, and Microsoft. So many opportunities to expand her expertise, and so many directions in which to do it! Add in an Eiluned Count to serve, and, well, it seemed that she would just have to figure out how to survive a war zone….
