Pre Game Time
There has been some confusion in the past regarding the amount of time a character has each night before game. This could be to cast rituals, investigate, craft or any number of other actions that a character could want to do before 10:00. The books talk about a vampire’s Path Rating affecting how early he or she can wake up each night, yet our current game has no system for this. To that end we have created the following system.
The amount of time each character has available will be a static amount based on the season will then add time based on the user’s Path Rating. Base time per season is as follows:
Summer – 1 hour
Autumn – 2 hours
Winter – 3 hours
Spring – 2 hours
Characters take this base number and then add 10 minutes per dot of Path Rating. So a vampire with a higher Path Rating will have a considerable advantage in time. A vampire who possesses the Early Riser merit will count as if they had a Path Rating of 10 for the purposes of this system.
Example: Tommy Tremere wants to cast an assortment of rituals totaling 1 hour and 40 minutes of casting time each night. He has also been called upon to aid a group ritual each night for 30 minutes for a total of 2 hours and 10 minutes. Tommy has a Humanity of 4 adding 40 minutes to the base time each night. In Summer, Tommy has 3 hours and 40 minutes, leaving plenty of excess time to use his Occult Library or pursue other activities. In the Spring and Autumn he has only 2 hours and 40 minutes, allowing him to complete his rituals, but then he needs to rush to make it to Elysium by 10:00 with only a half hour left. In Summer with only an hour and 40 minutes, Tommy will need to cut some rituals from his list or sit out of game for the extra half hour his rituals would take.
