The Anarch’s Survival Guide to Seattle Part 1 - Welcome to the Emerald Domain
The long awaited next segment in the Anarch’s Survival Guide series is here at last. Following our success with The Anarch’s Survival Guide to London, this time, your favourite Wielders of the Sword of Truth wherever the Dragon of Deception rears its head have journeyed to a domain much discussed, but heretofore never understood completely. This time we are taking on the farthest frontier, a city often discussed in hushed whispers (and obituaries) in the corridors of power where the great and the good gather, a domain so clouded in mystery and intrigue that the merest rumour of happenings there cause spur and scandal across the breadth of Kindred Society. This time, we venture deep into the bowels of Seattle, The Emerald domain.
For those of our readers currently unaware of the goings on in this scandalous domain of intrigue and violence, a brief overview of the notables of the city seems in order. First and foremost, there is the Prince Madsen (Ventrue), an enigmatic figure, seldom seen in person, but whose reach is felt by one and all in the confines of his domain. Next comes Mr. Maltin (Malkavian), his trusted Seneschal, and long-standing member of this tempestuous domain, though new to the prestigious office he now holds. Every domain needs a valiant knight to defend it, and such a vicious area as this is indeed lucky to have the might of the Sheriff Luthias (Tremere) to protect its citizens from any and all dangers that such a perilous domain can inflict. The post of Harpy is held in the very capable hands of a Ms. Bella Maurice (Malkavian) who, armed with dual weaponry of pen and tongue, shall prove a formidable figure in the path of these two crusaders for truth, though whether aid or hindrance is yet to be determined.
The Prince has decided on a more representative bent with his Primogen Council and included one representative for each clan currently in residence in his city. The Council is made of Jackson (Brujah), Dimitriy Cherrug (Gangrel), Lilly Ester Allen (Malkavian), Dr. Kiera Langston (Nosferatu), William Scarlett (Toreador), Heron (Tremere), Lord Casterly (Ventrue), and a new addition for this city and for the Camarilla, Jack Murphy (Assamite). Other notables who do not currently hold position include the mighty warrior Villoren (Brujah), the master clockmaker and longest resident of this domain Morris Tobias (Ventrue), and the mysterious disappearing Eugene Krantz (Toreador). This domain certainly has its share of imposing figures that might make a would-be new arrival nervous, but it must be remembered that the same figure that scares the pants off a new neonate is equally imposing to raging Lupines or invading Sabbat.
The welcome process to this contentious domain does not seem to differ too greatly from many Camarilla cities. In other words, it’s a very good idea to know someone already here if you don’t wish to end up in trouble immediately upon arrival. Upon arrival, a simple presentation of a letter of introduction and a not overly onerous grilling, will see a fresh arrival swiftly on his way to Toleration, if not Acceptance. The protocol here seems to be to go through your clan’s Primogen if at all possible and let that individual of standing present you to the Seneschal for consideration. Failing that contacting the Seneschal directly may work, but may also incur that fearsome wrath of ever-cranky Camarilla elders at a breach of protocol. Every newcomer should be well-versed in the Traditions (see Surviving the Camarilla, Tips and Tricks), and be prepared to recite them by wrote. Once toleration or acceptance has been bestowed, as in most Camarilla cities, the great and the good seem to see your case as finished and proceed to promptly ignore you from then on. There is one added step that must be followed in this city however, at least if our bright eyed neonate newcomer wishes to be at all social with his fellow Kindred. The Keeper of Elysium for the Emerald Domain has imposed an extra security measure on the Elysium of choice by requiring membership keycards to access the safety and community conveyed by Elysium. If you are a member of the Camarilla, there are no worries. A card is provided for you on simple request to the Keeper (if you know to ask for it). If, however you find that the confines of the Camarilla are not for you, it is vitally important to make a good friend (see Anarch’s Dictionary for definition) upon your first visit to Elysium, as you will be required to get someone with a keycard to grant you entrance every time you wish to visit.
Well that brings us to the close of Part 1 of the Anarch’s Survival Guide to Seattle. Don’t despair however at the brevity of this article. As our regular readers are quite aware, we crusaders for truth here at the Anarch Soapbox are never finished. Be sure to keep reading to catch Part 2 of this expose on the Great Western Frontier of the Camarilla.
