Masked Vigilante Saves Mother and Child
It was a harrowing night for the Guidry family of Tacoma on Saturday night. 43-year-old Lisa and her 9-year-old son Michael arrived home to find her husband Kevin in a drunken rage. Having been victimized in the past by her husband, Lisa tried to get her son up to bed before the situation could escalate. Kevin Guidry, who had 3 prior arrests for Domestic Violence would not allow either of them to leave, repeatedly hitting both his wife and son.
"It was awful," reported a shocked Lisa Guidry after the incident. "I had never seen him this bad. He had hit me before but he had never taken his anger out on Michael. I tried to get Michael upstairs but he blocked the way, repeatedly hitting me and calling me a whore and Michael a bastard. Somehow I managed to get my phone out and call 911 before he smacked it out of my hand. He then went and got the shotgun he keeps in the closet and started talking about how I had backed him into a corner and he was going to kill us all."
When the police responded to Mrs. Guidry's 911 call, Kevin Guidry was waiting and directly shot the officer that entered the house in the chest, killing him instantly. Officer William Garret was a 5-year veteran of the Tacoma Police Department who served with honor and distinction for his whole career. He will be missed. Kevin then called out to Officer Garret's partner that no one else had better come in or he would kill his wife and child. A hostage team was called in, the Guidry house surrounded, and the nearby houses were evacuated.
It is here that this story leaves the realm of Law and Order and enters the pages of a DC comic book. Mrs. Guidry reports that a figure in full body armor and a black mask suddenly appeared behind her husband, knocked the gun out of his hands and expertly subdued the man, then disappeared around the corner again before the police could come inside.
"It was Batman," said 9-year-old Michael Guidry. "Batman saved us just like he saves people in the comics."
As if to support this theory, a message showing the well known symbol of the Caped Crusader was left open on the child's computer upstairs. Kevin Guidry was arrested on charges of 1st Degree Murder and Assault with a Deadly Weapon, but no sign of the Guidry's mysterious savior has been found.
Detective Robert Benson of the Tacoma Police Department had this to say in comment. "Although this incident may have turned out ok, we cannot and will not condone the actions of a vigilante. Whoever this masked assailant is, he is no better than the mugger on the street who attacks someone in a mask. Real justice does not need a mask. Whoever you are, it is clear that you have a strong sense of justice, and for the sake of real justice, we of the police urge you to stop what you are doing and leave the crime fighting to us."
Despite this, there has been a growing local movement online declaring support for this masked avenger. Many anonymous voices are saying the police are bought and paid for and useless where they aren't corrupt. Is this the rise of vigilante justice? Who is this man in the mask? Either way, I doubt this is the last we have seen of this masked avenger.
