The Centers for Disease Control have announced that the new flu outbreak in the Fall City area shows signs of being resistant to current antiviral medications. While the new strain can still be prevented with proper health precautions and a seasonal flu vaccine, it remains resistant to treatment and is a troubling development in the ongoing war against communicable diseases.
Officials are suggesting avoiding any visits to Fall City or any contact with infected individuals unless absolutely necessary. If you haven't already done so get your flu shot. Flu shots are available throughout the region at drug stores, doctor's offices, and non-profit aid groups. Select National Guard checkpoints in the Fall City area are also administering the vaccine without cost in an effort to stop the spread of the disease.
If you are sick, please contact your doctor for specific actions. If you do not have a regular doctor, you can contact the CDC hotline setup at (***) ***-**** for additional information. If you are displaying flu like symptoms you should stay at home for the duration of your fever, and at least 24 hours thereafter. You should limit contact with others as much as possible to avoid infecting them.
Fortunately this influenza outbreak was quickly detected by State National Guard doctors already on the scene in Fall City. With early detection it may be possible to stop this outbreak before other population centers are reached.
