In regards to the Event, the only negative word I heard from any bird was the venue chosen was rather absurd. While roomy, the Brujah Warehouse lacked a certain refinement to my mind. No doubt it was chosen in an attempt to satisfy the Prince’s desire for martial demonstration. If not for that requirement, I suspect the combined means of clan Toreador could likely have arranged for a more elegant setting to go with the elevated subject matter. Foremost among which was the masterpiece of Lily Carver. I can do naught but offer my deepest condolences to those not present at the Event, as the bust of Prince Bella Maurice that Lily Carver finished there would be featured in the premier galleries of the world, were it not already locked away in a private showroom. In years to come if may be brought out at events that Her Grace cannot be present for, and I'm certain that Her Grace will be amenable to private showings of the piece, should any Kindred abroad wish to view it. In conversation with the Primogen that witnessed the carving, and with elders held in the highest regard, and the vote was unanimous: no fallen Toreador could produce such incredible works of majesty... Words fail me, and I must ready myself for the unthinkable inability to express my experience of reality. I must try nevertheless, for I refuse to consign myself to slack-jawed babble. The carving, a bust of Prince Bella Maurice done in flowing, elegant lines that harmonize perfectly with the grain and tempre of the wood. It took a subject we were all familiar with and elevated us until we could see clearly what we truly are--the essence of what Bella Maurice, in which we see tiny reflections of our own essence. It is as if Lily Carver has peeled away the skin of reality, drove to the core of our Prince's soul, and brought a molten fragment forth with her, to crystallize and germinate in the flesh of fading memory. I have favor, misfortune and bravado enough to sit before the thing while I try to write this. I struggle not to reach my trembling hand to run over its angles and curves. I fight not to open my mind to it, that I might see too what makes it smile so; might hear its thoughts as it regards me. I find myself wondering what it thinks about our reality, and what it was like where it came from. I keep expecting it to resume its motion and life as soon as I look away, as if it is only playing at being inanimate, and is indeed a thing more real than its surroundings; more real than myself, the subject or its own creator.
Reading them after, these words sound mad. I see that I have failed both to truly express the reality of the piece and to avoid babbling like a man of decayed mind. In fairness, those who wish to mock me for my words must first come to Seattle and experience the beast for themselves.
Among the other featured events, Morris Tobias forged a beautiful sword from start to finish in the Brujah warehouse and gave a demonstration of the clockwork marvels he has in store. Keeper Tristan McKenna gave a stunning acappella recital, and Will Scarlet gave a splendid display of martial prowess.
After conversation with Emelian Fantana, the Prince has determined that, while not particularly entertaining, Emelian did have several characteristically straightforward and honest tidbits to relate to her. One does wonder if the Prince believes Emelian’s allegations against Ascanio.
Due to her loss of face the previous week, it was deemed that the former Primogen of Clan Toreador was no longer fit to sit on the Prince's Council. As such, Tristan McKenna, the Keeper of Elysium responsible for hosting the spectacular event, announced that she would be stepping down as Keeper and up as Toreador Primogen. Given that people tend to value clan ties highly in Seattle, I wasn't certain of my reception amongst the Toreador. My concerns were quickly put to rest, as the newly recognized Primogen informed me straight out that she personally considers me quite admirable in the pursuit of my duties, for which she has my gracious thanks and solemn vow to gleefully paint red any Toreador who makes themselves a target. On that subject, Primogen Tristan made specific mention to me that she found Lily Carver’s help with the Event invaluable.
The ascension of Tristan McKenna to Primogen leaves Keeper of Elysium sadly empty. For reasons that I will discuss later in this report, the Lady Aristat Alexandrei has agreed to shift her attentions from the duties of the Scourge to those of the Keeper of the Elysium. As familiar as Aristat is with conventional wisdom regarding idle hands, I am not at all surprised that she has selected the notoriously diligent Marcus Colson to act as her host. She has written a small note on the behavior she expects from those in attendance, which I am pleased to include here verbatim.
Rules of the Salon:
This is not an Elysium. It is a safe place for the gathering of the members of the Camarilla, and violence will be a direct insult to Keeper Aristat, who will collect boons in accordance to the magnitude of the insult given.
A breach of this Salon, for all intents and purposes, will be treated as a violation of Elysium, and puts your status in the hands of the Keeper.
Each use of a power will be considered on its own merit, but do not violate the personal boundaries of those of better standing than yourself. A use of a power that directly or indirectly harms the safety of the Acknowledged or Tolerated occupants or undermines the authority of the Prince or her Keeper will result, likely, in the owing of boons, or, in severe cases, a loss of status.
Keeper Alexandrei has informed me that, due to the matter I shall relate later in this report, the salon location shall be somewhat more secure than hitherto. Keys will be provided to all members of Court and Council and to Kindred whose reputation places them above reproach. If you do not get a key and would like one, see the Host. I can only hope that she doesn't abandon her charges like she did the last time I was in a Sabbat-besieged city in which she was entrusted with my protection. I am not at all bitter that her flight that night resulted in my horrible death by vohzd and I can only hope that it isn't habit-forming.
The shuffle of position continues, as Aristat can no longer attend the duties of Scourge if she is Keeper, and so Prince Bella Maurice has selected Will Scarlet to serve the role to the best of his abilities.
Mike Wood, a Diablerist Anarch arrived at the event and asked to join the Camarilla. Needless to say, I laughed. The Prince however, took his request seriously, and has declared him under the Accounting of Aristat Alexandrei. When she is satisfied of his suitability to join polite society and not widdle on the nice carpet or commit Diablerie, the Prince has allowed that She may grant him her Acknowledgement.
Due to the mysterious disappearance of Ventrue Primogen Eldric Voltare and the immediate need for Primogen leading and organizing every clan in this emergency, Balefire has stepped onto the Council in at least a temporary capacity.
The new Toreador Primogen has asked me to ponder what I would consider to be the duties of the Primogen. I thought about this briefly, then realized it would be far more relevant to her intention if I prepared a dissertation on the duties of the Primogen as seen by the Prince and the strangely contagious view of the Emerald Domain itself.
1. Represent the Clan and its interests at Council and to the Prince. If you cannot gather or attend Council, it is your duty to select a whip to sit at council (note: if your whip is not loaned status, they will either not be permitted to speak [if too low standing to sit at council] or will be addressed as the new Primogen [if status 3 + acknowledged]. Status can be so loaned any time before the meeting actually starts, and can even be loaned by contingency--"if I am unavailable for a meeting, I loan the trait ___ to my whip, Frank, who I thereby empower to represent the Clan in my absence."--provided that it is logged with the Harpy; by the by, I consider it scandalous to bar a Kindred with a status of 5 + Acknowledged from sitting in on official Primogen meetings if they wish to. They have no power or voice, but they may listen freely; similarly, any vampire who is loaned status by three or more Primogen may attend a meeting and speak when asked, this extends even to independents/anarchs/sabbat). Introduce Kindred
new to the Domain to the Prince or Seneschal.
2. Manage and protect the Domain entrusted to your Clan by the Prince. Arrange for it to be patrolled to keep it safe from enemies and see to the Masquerade.
3. See that the Prince's edicts are understood and obeyed within your clan and clan Domain. Produce Kindred who break Traditions or are renegade from the Prince's justice and give them over for punishment or correction as necessary.
4. Select a competent Harpy and support him. If he ceases to perform effectively, convene a council meeting to seek his removal and subsequent replacement.
5. Advise the Prince.
6. Maintain the dignity expected of the face of your Clan (status 3 + Acknowledged is required to sit on the council. A clan that can produce no Primogen risks losing their seat and Clan Domain.)
7. Know the Kindred you represent. Contact their references and check their story carefully. Be vigilant against infiltration.
