So, the rules for feeding are found here. Aside from the flaw value in the example (which will be fixed shortly), that is pretty much how I intend on running blood for the entirety of my term.
Let's talk about how we come up with feeding and stuff shall we?
Feeding represents how effective your character is at finding and discretely consuming food-stuffs (read: blood). It is presumed that this score is, more or less, how good you are at being a vampire. As we explain, it's a pool of your Perception + (Ability) + Backgrounds + Merits - Flaws - Clan Flaws.
What's that? Clan flaws? Oh yes... See, the Giovanni and Ventrue clan flaws come up so rarely in RP where as some of the others are a constant concern so we felt it fitting to add these things into the pool. The Ventrue and Giovanni both suffer -4 to their feeding pools regardless of what ever else they might have. This is to represent how much harder the world is for them.
I can hear it now...
"But Rob! My Ventrue's feeding restriction is off drunk chicks and I have presence!"
Right on. Your story is easy enough to write. The Ventrue still suffer a -4 to feeding.
"But Rob! My Giovanni eats off dead people, so his flaw never comes up!"
One could argue that it was that very flaw that drove him to such habits, wouldn't you say? -4 to feeding.
There are a slew of flaws that affect feeding and USUALLY never come up in RP. That's a shame. A crying shame. And to stem the tide of monkeying around with the flaw system for free points, all flaws that affect feeding give their value in a minus to the pool.
Of the merits that affect feeding, there are only a few. Generally speaking, there are a bunch of merits that could be ARGUED as affecting feeding (such an Enchanting Voice). These were not taken into account as the mechanical effect of them comes up in RP far more frequently than their flaw equivalent. It's possible down the road that we will alter this to be a bit more benevolent, but I wouldn't plan for that. We went with merits that specifically say they affect feeding, of which there are exceedingly few.
Our sheets currently figure out your highest possible feeding pool and use that as your base. I would strongly encourage those who have sheets approved to check out their feeding score. Understand that at each month we will be determining a PERCENTAGE of that pool as your starting number, not the full kitty. Often ignored backgrounds suddenly become big freakin' deals.
Let's do an example or three to understand just what we are talking about right now:
Ventrue A is a social beast (with all social Attributes at 5). Yet, he has neglected his Perception in favor of his Presence pools; he only has a 2. Staff reviews his sheet, and of the appropriate feeding Abilities, Subterfuge is his highest at 4 (he's an exceptional liar, but it's still hard to find your marks). His current feeding pool is 2 (Perception 2 + Subterfuge 4 - Ventrue 4). Ventrue A was also a bit foolish and invested in a flaw called Addition (3pnts). The wisdom of a creature with rarefied tastes further restricting the pool of creatures he can feed from aside, this alters his feeding pool to a -1. No matter what I roll for the rest of the game, Ventrue A will be starting their blood at 0. This character isn't a sunk concept, however; they could still be a decent vampire. But now they need to invest in Herd, suck up to get some Domain, and maybe invest in a bit of Fame. Otherwise....
Tremere B is a mental creature and has elected to feed using his Medicine skill (he writes a story for this as working part time at a blood bank, or hospital, or what-not). He is a mental beast (and spec-ed out for Auspex) so has Perception 5 and Medicine 4. However, the Regent has decided that Tremere B is a little too uppity for his own good and removed access to his Herd for a few months to teach him a lesson. Tremere B has Grip of the Damned, and without his Herd is really suffering for willing victims. (5 + 4 -4, starting pool of 5). Fortunately, he is a part of the Tremere Coterie and still has access to their pooled Domain of 7. With a feeding score of 12, he probably won't start game starving, but he also won't have much vitae to sling around in spell casting.
Make sense? If you have questions, ping me. This is more relevant to some then others. Also, bear in mind that if you have a blood pool of less than 7 - your Self Control, you are considered Hungry and at risk of Frenzy. Staff will know these things. Staff will mess with you.
Be better at being a vampire.
