Richard looked back to the city. He felt the only emotions left to him as they came through the Beast. It's frustration, It's anger. It was nearing on rage, that alone was a reason to get more distant from this place before his control faded.
"This bass-ackwards place, fucking Mary's all of them." He paused, feeling It's rage surge up for a moment. "Cept that Lady K, she had the right dealings. And a god damn piss proud Scepter at that. They know the order of things. Even her boat-licker, decent enough sort."
He looked down and to the side and the man he was talking to. The family beside him was hardly as important, but Richard was hungry, and hunger was another step for the beast to be on.
"There were a few others that understood the order of things. Are we to be respected? bollix that, its a bell fired thing. Respect hell... Are we to be revered? Who the bloody hell reveres a Broken Mirror? The Pyramid, he got close to a shard of the mirror, but that seemed more to bury him later. And the Shard didn't even notice. But the one who stepped back, he knew caution. Even the Claw from Denver, heard I was Broken and he knew caution."
Richard stepped forward, putting weight on the struggling woman,
"Little adventuress, do you mind I am talking and don't need your addition."
She like her family was perhaps finding it most disconcerting that the man who seemed like he should be angry or more. But Richards words were cold, only punctuated by his beasts occasional lashings from within.
"Oh and its court, Prince Bluebell himself and all those under him. He is a thorny Rose to be sure, uppity as a strumpet. I mean shit, I don't pose as an upper like the Roses, but be damned if he doesn't mind overstepping custom. Stripped away what was mine as though it were nothing, not a legacy nothing. And do you know why? He points at the Mirror and uses it as a reason, no caution shown to the broken at all. Fuck that noise. His pet Pyramid and what ever his other pet, trained by the Erinyes, they had no concern at all. Few if any did. And fuck if they cared for what I was owed, they ignored that too."
Richard picked up the man, stepping away from the wagon and over the son of the couple. Then, he began to feed, looking into the young mans eyes. Using a power of the blood, Richard saw the bound victims eyes widen further, closer to the young mans own mirror breaking.
"We will see how Shards feel about it, for I have no fear in letting more know how Seattle is being. Maybe its just this court, maybe not. But they might get a lesson in why one should have concern for the Shards of the Broken Mirror. Just because we are dead inside today, doesn't mean we should look to being dead inside tomorrow, rather then truly dead. Like, I might see about Prince Bluebell being some day and let that be a lesson of caution."
Richard took the woman next, draining her as well and watching that familiar glaze come across the young mans eyes.
"Now you see to, the mirror has begun to fracture. I Bet Seattle will go addled to, its own mirror will break, and all around will not even know where to begin. Gaining a distant "Friend" and marking another down as Foe, does that make this trip worth it? Not even if I had spent only a week here, but no I convinced myself to stay almost a score of years. What I fool I, more the fool eye. But that uppity blue rose, if I can I will find who else it is he calls foe, and see what actions they might take."
He looked down at the one he had been talking to this entire time.
"Now, will you join me in this? Or...."
As Richard watched, the young mans eyes began to clear, his mind fighting through the shock.
"Well, perhaps I was wrong about this mirror, your not breaking at all... Good bye then."
Full, Richard drew out a long knife and slit the mans throat and watched the light fade. It always interested him in those last moments, when the death outside forces its way in. Perhaps some day, enough deaths later he would understand what made him how he was....
"But for now, its off to the next job."
