"There's always this damned rain falling out of the sky. Who want's to live in a place where it's always raining. That's what they're known for, you know? Rain! Rain!? Chicago was a strong city, cold yes, but less rain." Mr. Hawthorne went on like for this for some time, as Mrs. Hawthorne unpacked the China and lovingly put it in their hutch. She tried to calm her husband down. "Language dear, wouldn't want to work yourself into a huff. Now, would you? Besides, you hated the snow. Remember dear?"
Mrs. Hawthorne flitted off to the the kitchen and came back with a scotch on the rocks. She set it on the table next to him and smiled. "Please dear, give it a chance. It will feel like home in no time, I promise. What can I do to make you feel better? Would you like a cake? Yes, that's it, a pineapple upside down cake! That's your favorite. Remember dear?" She smiled lovely at her husband, as he let out a defeated sigh. "That sounds lovely darling, just lovely."
Mr. Hawthorne sat back in his favorite chair and puffed his cigar. He wondered to himself how he would ever break it to his wife that Pineapple upside down cake was no longer his favorite. That, in fact, cake was just not for him anymore. Ah well, what's the harm, he thought? It seems to keep her calm, for now.
