As we come to the close of my year in charge, I'd like to address the general population of game to say thank you for the opportunity to tell stories and correct some of the things that I thought needed to be corrected. It's been a rough road, but one that I think we traveled well. I had some general goals that I told my staff before stepping up, some milestones that I established in my platform ( Here and Here ), and some personal victory conditions for my term.
With my staff, I wanted to reveal the world in a measured sort of way; we largely accomplished that. I wanted to firmly establish canon and what the general basics of vampire was and what was to be expected from what (positions, status, boons, etc); I feel we largely accomplished that. We had a grip of minor goals for the paper-table, and aside from one or two stragglers, we've implemented them all. I vowed to run a fair and even game (I'll write a separate post on what I meant by that); I feel we've done accomplished that. And I tried really hard to battle some of the negative cultural aspects that EC had fallen to in the past; with only a few exceptions, I feel we've done that too.
This was difficult. It was difficult for staff. It was difficult for the players. It was difficult for me. But, I feel like we did it and we did it well. So. Lets take a moment to pat ourselves on that back.
In December, we did a player survey. While we're about to head into the heavy campaigning section of game as my stepping down gets more formalized, I'll be preparing another survey to see how we did with some of these items. This will also be an excellent tool for those would-be HSTs when structuring where they envision game going under their term. Either way, it's a good conversation, and we're due for one.
While we're on the topic of surveys, I've recently reviewed what was said (the constructive bits). Largely, we addressed all of these issues (discussed here ). We brought in more transparency with the podcasts and DGA's (more to come). While there still seems to be some players that get more of staff time than others, I think that those who aren't getting watered need to nudge a bit more to get that sweet-sweet ST water. Most of the negative responses in the survey, honestly, were designed to be cutting and non-productive. But that was also when we were in the infancy of the story; I'm much more positive that this next survey will have less of that.
We have a few more goals to accomplish with my term. We need to put in the last bit of the released V20 stuff. We need to firmly train the players how Domain is handled (honestly, this is mostly me having been lazy about it). We need to get the last few kinks out of the paper system (more on that to come). I have a few podcasts I'd like to finish before we wrap up. Story wise, we have a plot or two that I'd like to put to bed before I hand things off. I have a few key NPCs to establish and a few key NPCs to resolve. All and all, very attainable goals.
I'll be updating the player base with the last few articles that really need attention in the coming weeks. We'll have the last few things from paper available in the next week or two. We'll have the NPC situation written correctly by the end of July, and all of the V20 stuff will be fully implemented by close of June.
I'm going to extend the invitation to all of the players, past and present, to drop me a line or find me at game and tell me what they've enjoyed and what they haven't. If people left, I'd like to know why. If people are feeling super excited, I'd like to know why. If people are getting tired, I'd like to know why. Some games will always be better than others, but we are genuinely striving to be the best we can be each week with the tools we have at hand.
Thank you and good night.
