The old van parks on the deserted street. A man gets out and secures the van looking around. It’s a calm sunny day in Seattle, no sidewalks in this area of shoreline. He walks to the door and knocks. After a few moments an old man answers “Mr. Mudd, you got one package delivered. I just want to thank” Mudd frowns and says “I’m not here to talk Wilks just get my mail.” The old man looks crest fallen and grabs a large package sitting next to the door.
The cardboard box is addressed to Lexx Mudd with no return address. Mudd’s heart quickens for a moment, what has she gotten herself into this time? Why she send a package instead of calling? Shit this isn’t the time for me to have to run off.
Flick of a knife and the box is open, inside is a package wrapped in tissue paper and a beautifully written note on top.
Lexx,
Thanks for helping as always. You go above and beyond as a brother. Things are getting stable again. I thought you might want your favorite jacket back. You left it on the bed when you left. Sorry there’s no money in it I needed it for shipping.
Love Erica
The grabs the tissue paper tearing it away and pulls out an olive green trench coat. It’s old and worn with more than one stain on it. Mudd smiles and puts it on even with the warm summer weather. “Now I feel better, can’t believe I would have missed this thing so much.” His hands work through the jacket looking to see if there was anything left in the hidden pockets but of course his sister found them all. Still feels like it’s a win. The jacket belonged to their father and was one of the few things he had left to remember the man.
Back into the van and away he drives.
