Player Etiquette for subsequent character creation?

Hi all!

I am a new player to ECC and I am looking for some general guidance to prepare for the inevitability of character death. Specifically, I am looking to understand what, if any, etiquette surrounds creating a second (or more) character? Such as "Don't make a character of the same clan ever again" or "Have at least 2 characters between playing the same clan, such as Ventrue - Malkavian - Brujah - Ventrue again".

Clan is just an example. I am looking for any and all guidance for etiquette on creating my next character. Things that aren't written down, but are generally frowned upon or encouraged within the ECC community.

I am not intending to get rid of Victor, yet. I just want to plan for the inevitability that Victor will eventually die or leave play at some point.

Hello my fellow buddy cop!

I have not yet experienced character death and I do not like to consider it an inevitability. Vampires live forever, you know, as long as you're politically savvy enough. So let's not be talking about Victor dying or leaving any time soon!

That being said, there's an 'Inigo Montoya' clause in the charter that says you can't play a character that would be intimately connected to your retired/dead one. So no sires, childes, old friends, etc. This PROBABLY extends to your Clan as well, as the rest of your Clan is probably dealing with the fallout of you dying/leaving and we also want to avoid too much of a 'the old Brujah left, take a look at this new Brujah!' But unless you plan on playing total cannon fodder that just throws itself at enemies over and over again and keeps getting blown up, I think the distance between character death/retirement is probably enough that you could play Brujah - Malkavian - Brujah again, etc.

I will leave it to someone more experienced than me to confirm, though...

Oh, I have no intention of killing off Victor at this time. I have plans, you see ...

I know and understand the Inigo Montoya clause, and I know the I shouldn't play the same clan twice in a row. What I am looking for are guidelines beyond that where the community generally considers to be poor taste.

The guidance on when it is acceptable to go back to a previous clan was helpful. Thanks! Is there anything else?

Basicly

If your character dies, don't pitch a fit and make a scene. It's a game and any character can die on a bad roll.

Your next character cannot have any ties with your last one. Luckily the game is large enough that this is pretty easy to do.
