2:45am, they were running 10 minutes late.
Rhodes could see the rail conductor from here, giving a final inspection over the multiple cars. They were building trains. With the schedule running late, hostilities were high. Sighing, he put the chained pocket watch away. It was an older time piece, probably from the 20's.
It gave him some time to think, at least. It was a dangerous endeavor, one that would expose him and the other Road Dogs. That was the choice, though; certainly not free of charge. The recent agreement they had come to would ensure that the Road Dogs would have a role to play in this city for years to come.
The train started to shift, the electric engine throttling up to pull the multiple cars behind it. It was time to go, the train wouldn't wait for him. It was important he was on that train, it was the only one that would get him there before daybreak. There was a reason he was travelling by rail tonight. The jeep was still broke down, left up at the Silver Lake Rest Area. He spent the last of his money to get it towed to a more secure location. Rhodes certainly didn't want to lose the old girl for good.
The part was going to cost him about $250.00, money he just didn't have. His business elsewhere would give him the resources he needed to fix it, and he wasn't unfamiliar with the railroad. If anything, Rhodes could travel. It was one of the best things he knew how to do; by rail, road, air, or water lanes. It did not matter, he was as nomadic as Clan Gangrel could come.
Lowering into a crouch, he watched the cars build up to speed. It would need to conform to the speed limit until it got out of the industrial loading area. That was his chance to board undetected. The men in the pick up trucks and the amber flashing lights were starting to leave. Now it was the time to run, he pushed off and began sprinting across the open yard. Mid-stride, his fingertips lengthened into claws. He fell in line with the train and made his move, throwing the large military duffel up and into the dry good cart. On the next seven steps, he was leaping forward to grasp the car and finding his footing. Climbing, the Gangrel made his way toward the top of the cart and fell in. Rhodes landed in dirty coal, laying on his back with a smile. His eyes focused on the moon above. The light would cause problems down the rail, but for now he was fine. The coal would cover him from the cameras, just as soon as he dug deep and hid beneath the surface.
It was the perks of not needing to breathe..
He was headed North.
..Really North.
