The corpse blew a casket!
Morgue technicians who work at a Seattle county morgue to prepare the body of 38-year-old Casey Price Jr. reeled in horror when the dead man’s corpse suddenly exploded, according to their shocking report.
The force of the blast ripped open Price’s aluminum-lined temporary coffin and filled the morgue in Seattle, WA with “a horrendous, foul odor,” according to Claire Hortenz, the embalming tech on site during the blast.
The tech said Price's body exploded because it was not yet embalmed and gases formed within the corpse as the decomposition process occurred.
The county morgue had to be temporarily evacuated as police assured local businesses that the blast and ensuing smell was neither contagious, nor posed any further hazard.
The man, Price had disappeared from Santa Monica California and was homeless, and family members had presumed dead. He had a recent bout with mental health problems and quit his job after claiming that he had become allergic to sunlight and could not appear for work during normal business hours. Police in Santa Monica stated that Price had been under investigation related to the death of several pets in the are via exanguination: removal of blood from the animals. Alternative social networking website had his last profile update, which read: "I'm searching for my dark mistress. She made me what I am, a creature of the night, and now I've got the power I need to bring her into the darkness with me."
But Price's body was found in the morning on Wednesday in an abandoned tenement building near the Greenlake area of Seattle, months later and pronounced dead by a police officer, then shipped to the county coroner for identification, and disposal of his remains.
Chief county coroner Andrea Richards had this to say about the man's plight. "It's a shame that drifters such as this have to meet such a sad end. We suspect drug use, though we will not investigate further. The family has been contacted."
The county coroner went on to say that there was, at one point some concern that the body may have contained parasites of some kind, however the coroner's office can find no current evidence of parasites, and that the morgue is periodically cleaned and sterilized to avoid any chance of contagion or illness from the remains.
Price's remains are scheduled to be cremated this weekend, and will be sent to his family.
