Hello all,
As you likely know, the bead draw system was designed to support and enforce certain established ideals to the game. A spread of generation, status, and relative power scale. The more 'Rares' that are in the world, however, the less any of it really matters and the more the demographics become distorted and obtuse, not what they were originally intended to be.
The new Staff has identified a few weaknesses in previous system, one of which being implementation of canon standards. To correct this oversight, we will be putting in place a new policy (or more accurately, amending a current policy, found here: www.emeraldcitychronicles.com/out-of-character-inactive ):
Hiatus, or Out of Character Inactive, will now have a few qualifiers. You can't go on hiatus if you are being actively pursued. (By PCs or NPCs because of in-character action.) Nor can Hiatus be maintained indefinitely. All Hiatus status characters will need to clearly stipulate a date when this state ends (For approval by current staff.), and in the case of having *any* Rare bead on their sheet, this date cannot extend beyond a three-months Exceptions may be made for extenuating circumstance this will be made at the discretion of staff and the head storyteller. Any exceptions will have a hard end date. Further, this will apply to your 'Concept Rarity' if this was used to occupy a limited slot item (an uncommon or rare merit, bloodline, or other finite game-resource).
This policy isn't being created to target any one person, character, or action. Upon reviewing the files adopted from previous Staff, we have found several such cases. Those who have the benefit of Rare items also have a responsibility to represent them responsibly, and that frankly necessitates a certain degree of in-game presence.
We understand that this is likely jarring or unpleasant news, and for that we apologize. You will have one month from the date of this email being sent to amend your Hiatus status on your character. If we haven't heard back from you within this window, we will assume that you haven't the time or interest for EC and will retire your character. However, if you do still have interest and your situation simply hasn't changed, drop us a line. The three-month window will start whenever that negotiation process starts and previous time away from game won't be applied against your character.
Regardless of this, we miss you and would like you to return to us. If there is some underlying issue that isn't your real-life related that might change your availability, please let us know!
