Why does he keep showing up to mage?

Hello everyone, sorry this has taken so long. It is a rather slow spin up as I resolve old commitments and drop into being a full time member of the ECC in general and the Mage sphere in particular. To put a name to the face, I am the guy in the Tux from last game.

I am pretty new to EC, I am pretty new to the mage sphere. However I am not new to mage. I have been working with mage since before it actually existed as mage. I have in the past run extensive table top games, but the majority of my experience with mage comes from running the Trial By Fire LARP in Tucson, Arizona for 4 years. I hope to leverage that experience in assisting Matt and Lily in telling a good story that is worthy of everyone’s continued time commitment.

I am here to entertain and encourage storytelling. I am not here to rain on anyone’s parade. I am non-adversarial personally. It is not my job as a storyteller to quash anyone’s hopes or dreams, but to foster each sliver of inspiration into a thread that can be woven into the larger tapestry. If you aren’t having fun at game or aren’t feeling involved, grab me.

Like I said before, I am still really new to EC’s system, house rules and so forth. I know the mechanics for Mage, but even then I sometimes get the subtle changes from 1st to 2nd to Revised confused. If I am wrong, please don’t hesitate to correct me, I won’t take it personally.

In general, I try to let the golden rule run its course. So I do sometimes take extensive shortcuts for the sake of plot in minor scenes. I will also sometimes make on the fly rulings to prevent the moment from getting bogged down in digging through a book.
The one exception to dramatic liberties and the golden rule is when the events I am arbitrating will permanently effect player characters or cause a lasting imbalance in the game. This is exactly why the rules exist to begin with and I will try to follow them directly with judgment always falling on the side of what is best for the game as a whole.

I try to get into my roles when playing NPCs. If I know I will be playing a few, I will bring a couple of different changes of clothes, if I have personally changed clothes; I am probably a different character.

Away from game; I am a military veteran, a graduate student of psychology, and an undergraduate student of criminal justice with a minor in philosophy. I work in the security industry and my boss frequently reminds me of all of the good and bad of the syndicate. I have been a lifetime student of the martial arts. I have worked as a mortician, chef, personal trainer, accountant and soldier. I live with my wife, my two puppies Bandersnatch and Ronin and my cat Chew Toy.

Welcome aboard, fellow noob to EC Mage. I agree with Jenn, I had a lot of fun interacting with you. And I thought the tux was a classy addition.

And yes, please do tell us about your puppies and kitties.

Ronin is a 1 year old Malamute- Lab mix with a great gentle demeanor. He’s goofy playful and his only big flaw is that he likes to do the high pitch malamute annoying noise of death in the truck for no reason. He also has the lab – “I’m going to eat anything I can swallow” trait. Thankfully my wife is a veterinary technician and can handle this kind of thing. I can generally trust Ronin to follow me around off leash on long hikes. He has a 4 foot vertical leap when excited.

Bandersnatch is 5 months old Boxer – Dane mix. She’s mildly retarded, in a wonderful kind of way. When she is happy and wags her tail, the pivot point isn’t her tail but about the middle of her back so her entire rear just swings back and forth. She’s still a puppy so I hope she can learn more basic skills, we work with her every night. She’s a total love for people, which is a strong contrast to Ronin’s protective drive. She drools when she sees anything that she thinks she can eat.

Chew toy is a cat. Chew has always been around at least two dogs and really act more like a dog when not being a full on feline terrorist. Chew wrestles with the dogs like a puppy and can even be comfortably kenneled with them without issue. Chew likes to complain loudly that he isn’t getting fed enough ever, he is also absolutely determined that the best place to sleep is directly between my wife and me. Chew shows affection by biting and is the animal in my house most likely to draw blood.

Melissa is my wife, we have been together for a year now. She loves mage but up until recently works Saturdays and has not been up for game. She is a vet tech working at a vet hospital on Aurora but will soon change jobs to start working for the pet insurance company Trupanion. She will be joining EC in the New Year, probably playing a Verbena for mage.

Yay for a new Verbena - that will make three, sacred number and all.

Your animals sound like a hoot. The last malamute I met decided I was her pup (I get a little nervous around big dogs because of a childhood dog attack) and decided I needed protecting from the other malamute in the house. Then she and I sang together which, apparently, "never" happens with people outside the family.

As for Chew Toy... sounds a little like all of my cats combined.
