Another, not so quick question

Okay, so I was hit with this awesome character idea, and I wanted to run something by everyone. This character, while I am not, will more than likely be racist.

I was wondering how many, if any, would truley be offended by this. And, would that stop you from both interacting with the character, or stop it from getting approved.

But seriously, I wouldn't have a problem with a racist character OOC, nor can I think of anyone off the bat that would, either. IC on the other hand.. Well, I know one of my characters almost got himself killed once when he expressed surprise and amusement towards the first caucasian Assamite he met.

While not a "rascist character" incident, the funniest to me was when Gregor Cronewerth, the "Caitiff" came up to Jelly Roll and Kenneth who were talking, and asked "Are you of relation?"

Since JR and K both have southern accents...uh huh...

Except JR is a black man and K is most definitely a white boy.

A little OOC mistake, but extremely funny. ;D

to answer the question asked....As long as you make it plain that this is your character's racism....I see no problem with it. It adds to the game in it's own way. I can't say that everyone feels the same way I do, and it might depend on what the character is against, but it's good of you to be asking.

We tend to play very enlightend racialy/socialy Vampires at SBC, I think it could be a big error to try to play someone who was openely racest, on the other hand, racism being a motive, and never shown, is entiirely difernt.

My personal opinion is that it is a very hard concept to hold on to. You might find yourself losing the character's personality because you find that you might not fit in quite well enough for the character to become part of the "Emerald Domain". But ofcourse, I also believe that a person is capable of anything as long as they are open minded to the fact that they have to change. If this character is approved, I will have no problem dealing with said character, and will not harbor any ill feelings towards the player for "ACTING" out the characters flaws, no matter how extreme they might be.

I'd just like to point out, as much as some people might not like it, that -All- Kindred are racist. At least except for a few, rare, individuals.

Just think "clan" when you read the definition of racism.

Discrimation and prejudice against individuals constantly occurs because of clan, sect, belief, lineage, et cetera.

How many times have you heard someone say "I hate Sabbat." Or, "F'n stuck up Ventrue" Or, "God damn lying Tremere"

All Tzimisce are twisted monsters.

All Assamites are out to eat your soul.

All Toreador are sissy artists.

All Tremere are Warlocks trying to experiment on you.

All Ventrue are born with a stick rammed up their ass.

All Giovanni are no-necks who like to screw corpses.

All Malkavians are babbling fools.

All Gangrel are mindless animals running around the forest with the beasts.

All Brujah are thugs looking for a fight.

All Ravnos are dirty thieving gypsies.

All Caitiff are worthless thin-blood mutts.

And on, and on, Et al..

So, just because Kindred have found something else to discriminate against, and have preconceived ideas about, other than (or -along- with) skin tone and/or heritage, doesn't mean they're not racist.

It's a part of the game, something not to be worried over out of character. After all, it -is- just a game.

In fact, it even lists what your clan's "racist view" is suppose to be. Right in the Main book.

But, like I said, doesn't mean you shouldn't be worried about the IC consequences.

Cuz, while Kindred may be racists as hell against clan and such. Many racists are more than happy to turn a blind eye toward their own racism, while downcasting another for the same crime.

Racism in itself is not a terrible thing to play as long as it is not played way too heavy.

Just be aware that there might be one or two things in anything that is evil, such as racism, that might be a little too offensive to a few people.

I would think that if you played this character outwardly moderatly racist and where open to a ST type person coming up to you privately and letting you know that a single item or two is bothering someone a little too much and you took it in stride that the players as a whole would not have a problem with it.

This is the WOD and occasionally exploring, with sensitive steps, something a little more on the edge is something that a mature player should be able to do.

In my humble opinion.

P.S. I might be one of those that finds an item or two a little too much. There is one word in particular that I as a player wish could be removed from the collective minds of the human race. Yet I am working on a post that has racist remarks. (which of cource does NOT contain that word).
