Just as a reminder: If your character doesn't already have an invite to the Masked Ball on the 18th, you're not going to be able to go as your character. Furthermore, if you don't get yourself in gear and get signed up to play an NPC no later than this week, you're going to be out of luck come the 18th!
However, because this is a combined Kindred/Kine event, you do have a very unique opportunity to keep the rest of the Kindred on their Masquerade toes, and to help define an important part of the Influence game. Play a Mortal.
What keeps this from being really boring? Let's start with the simple bonuses:
Everyone who plays a mortal will receive an extra XP and a thank-you item as a memento of the event. This is *in addition* to the "large event" free XP that everyone gets. So, if you're playing a mortal, you get 4xp just for showing up. Manage to get nominated for another xp, and help move props on Sunday, and you can gain yourself three weeks of XP in one night!
But that's not the coolest part. For the Kine, this is a high-society event with cutthroat politicking and social backstabbing. To promote this, there will be an *OOC contest* to drive IC actions. Winners of this contest will receive *an additional prize*, in commemoration of their mortal politicking ability. *Vampires and ghouls are excluded from this OOC prize*, no matter how well they politick in these circles.
So, what's the contest? How do you win? You, as a mortal, will be in one of the three groups who attend this kind of thing:
Artists. These are the talented beautiful people who are the creative source of the high-art society. Actors, singers, writers, composers, dancers, and the like. For you, this party is not only about celebrating your station in life as the source of joy and refinement, it is also a part of your work. You need to find a potential next project, build up the reputation of your friends, and crush the reputation of your rivals.
Financiers, patrons of the Arts. These are the talented, occasionally beatiful people who do the 'real work' of making money in the real world so that they can fund the myopic artists and their pursuits. This party is about celebrating your station in life, which is that of making these people dance (sing, or whatever) for your amusement. You need to evaluate the potential next projects, and use your monetary influence to ensure that civilized society does not go to the dogs.
Producers. These are the talented, slightly less beautiful people who organize all the tittering artists and the wealthy but tasteless patrons into a group of people who at best produce momentous works, and at worst don't kill each other (metaphorically speaking). You need to determine which of the Patrons actually have the money for what you need, and which of the Artists have actual talent, and create something from the mish-mash.
Artists 'win' by selecting the producer with the best financial backing. Financiers win by selecting the producer with the best artists. Producers win by having the best combination of actors (plural!) and financier (singular!).
In addition, you should design your Mortal to have individual motivations. These can range from 'crush a rival' to 'work with an admired artist', etc. Some also will have the motivation to take someone interesting and attractive home with them for the night. Some will get taken home by some*thing* rather than some*one*. Fulfilling these secondary motivations *can be* an excellent way to get yourself nominated.
And finally, these aren't just schmoe throw-away NPCs. The list of luminaries at this party are a who's-who of High Society, Finance, Media Influence and even some Bureacracy holders. The NPCs created for this party will be re-used and re-appear throughout the Emerald City's future. There's even the possibility that should your NPC be pulled into a storyline and need to be played again, we may tap you to recreate the performance.
How cool is that?
