This summer NOTR started a snack bar on campus. So far, I feel that it has been successful in not only keeping itself running, but in raising a little extra for the NOTR fund.
The question here is whether or not the snack bar should continue during the cold months.
Things to consider:
1) we will still be collecting rent while indoors at an asking rate of 2$ per person/per game night. choosing to buy goodies at the snack bar will NOT count as paying rent.
2) the 7-11 near the BGC is closed, so without an indoor snack bar, you will need to go further for snacks
3) there are vending machines at the BGC, but they cost more and the "profit margin" doesn't come back to NOTR
The "yes" proposal:
The snack bar would be located at the donation table. It would continue to be donation based, but purchases at the snack bar would not be counted as rent donations (that stuff our volunteers track in the green notebook). Money from the snack bar would go into the general NOTR fund. Money would come out of the general NOTR fund in the following order
1) rent
then, ONLY when we have at least rent x1 in the bank after paying the current month's rent
2) the website
3) more snacks
so there would be no danger that we might buy snacks and then not be able to pay rent, and if we ran out of snacks and didn't have enough money to buy more, the snack bar would simply shut down until the budget allowed us to re-open it.
The "no" proposal:
The snack bar would simply not buy any more new snacks for the remainder of our time outside, then disappear until next April/May.
Please let us know your opinions, questions or concerns. Vote, post, email, etc. We wanna hear you.
Thanks,
NOTR Staff
