The rumors are true! I am running for Werewolf HST.
I am going to keep this (relatively) short because I imagine people will have a lot of questions and we'll get more out of answering the ones YOU want to hear the answers to than the ones that I think I should answer. Here's some to start, though:
What rules will you change? What rules will you keep the same?
I don’t have a desire to re-tread a lot of system and I don’t think that it’s warranted at this point.
As far as things I DO know I want to look at, I would like to finalize a change to the ranking system to try and strike a better balance between effort, time, and paperwork - I don’t think the current “list” trial is an optimal solution, even though I was one of the people that asked for it in the first place, but I think that the system can still be improved. This would not be a total overhaul.
I will also be re-introducing the role of Narrators, because especially if this system involves more action on the part of the players I don't want people to get stuck in the trap of feeling like they need to do more to rank up not but not having any opportunity to run those scenes.
Do you have any big plot ideas? What sort of themes do you want to explore?
I think running for staff because you have a TOTALLY KEWL BIG PLOT IDEA is just about the most terrible reason to run for staff ever, so no. I feel that staff’s “meta” role is to form a boundary for the world, providing interesting but accurate world-based reactions which generate character activity, and telling characters’ stories.
I do not imagine I will run an NPC-heavy cast, and that the vast majority of NPCs which do show up will appear because they’re reflecting dots on your sheet, an in-character request for assistance, or as a boundary to to the world (like a messenger from a neighboring sept or someone on a quest.)
I’m also waiting (as we all are) to see how plots Rob’s staff is wrapping up will shape spirit-and-or-real-world of the game, so ideas for my “Where do we go from here?” plots, reactions, and thematics need to wait until then.
One of the big things I want to focus on is helping people do the things they want to do, even if they’re not big everybody-get-on-the-boat plots. If you have a backstory you want us to hook into, a quest your character wants to complete, or are just bored - I want to be able to provide something fun and realistic to serve as a carrot.
Who is on your staff?
Right now there are three confirmed ASTs and one Paperwrangler. I will let them make their own introductions on this thread/at game because we’re just shoring things up and I want to let them talk to their packs instead of hearing it from me. My list is also not complete. I’d like one more person on my staff which I’m still speaking with, and will update this thread as things change.
What are your goals?
My goal is simple: to make game fair while keeping it as fun as it can be for as many players as possible. I know that it’s impossible for every interpretation or rule to please 100% of the people 100% the time, so I’m not going to promise that.
One thing I want to concentrate on is increasing responsiveness to requests for scenes and downtime actions. I am hoping to accomplish this by having a larger staff, including narrators again, and using my awesome email-organizing skills to ensure people are responded to quickly. I may also tweak the way the ST waiting list works to ensure that things are handled expediently while maintaining continuity, especially if dealing with staff-portrayed NPCs.
Can we still play fera?
Yes. I am not looking at raising or lowering the cap at this time but yes, you can still play them, the list is still in effect, and Mark has graciously offered to tank this because he’s read a lot more of the fera materials than I have.
Will the XP benefits for certain auspices/tribes stay?
Yep. They will be continue to be looked at as demographics change, but I agree that as demographics currently stand they're a bit busted and would like to keep this encouragement in place.
