Hello, all.
Many moons ago, I held a writing contest, wherein the prize was to have your name and the winning story IMMORTALIZED within the first post of the infamous "Velvety Potato" thread on these forums.
Newish to game? No idea what the Velvety Potato is? Like an eldritch tome from a Call of Cthulhu game, READ at your own risk.
Anyway, a couple of days ago the question of "what the heck is the Velvety Potato?" came up, and the story was told. And it got me thinking about it, and I pulled it up for old time's sake. And there, on the first post, was the reminder to me of what was done and left behind so long ago.
But there has been SO MUCH awesome writing activity on the Vampire Story boards of late, I figured "why not again?"
So here we go:
CONTEST GUIDELINES:
1. You are to write a story involving your current PC, either directly or indirectly
2. The post must consist of a MINIMUM of 1100 words
3. The overarching theme/plot point of the story must be BETRAYAL (interpret however you will)
4. The prefix of the post's title must be "VP CONTEST 2:" for ease of tracking & identification
5. The post must be made to the boards no later than Midnight on Monday, September 30th 2013
6. If you post a story to the contest, you are REQUIRED (barring reasonable circumstances like you lost your leg in a freak cotton ball accident or something) to post a comment to EVERY OTHER CONTEST SUBMISSION while keeping to the guidelines laid-out in the "Thoughtful Comment" IWA
JUDGING:
I am the only judge. I'll be looking for creativity of plot, depth of character, structure, etc. I'll be relatively forgiving on some of the more mechanical aspects of punctuation and spelling but, you've got over a 1 1/2 months to do this, so I would hope what you submit isn't a first draft.
In the end it'll come down to which story I liked the most, and that you took the time to thoughtfully comment on your fellow writers' work. Simple as that.
THE PRIZE:
Your name and a link to your winning story will be added to the first entry of the legendary Velvety Potato thread, an honor and distinction you can proudly carry with you throughout all your years, ECC-related or otherwise (it's really a cool thing. you'll have to take my word for it. really).
Any questions? Post them here. I just came up with this on a whim so it's entirely possible I've left something important out of the scheme. I'll also be making a quick announcement about this tonight at game.
