Bristol, England 1945
The court was all decked out. Everywhere there were different feats of strength and representations of Brujah prowess. There were great works of literature and passionate deliveries of idealistic speeches. Amongst all the celebration in the center of everything was the princes table. The prince was seated at the head of the table and to his left was the host, Hadrian. Next to Hadrian sat a young Brujah. Her long red hair was cascading wildly down around her shoulders over a long black leather bomber jacket. In front of her was a red velvet cake with "Congrats Carmen!" written on it, but of course no one was eating it. Over the course of the evening she nodded and smiled, but kept her seat as though she was waiting for something.
Along with the three of them the rest of the court was seated at the table and in the position of special guest was a handsome gentleman also extending the proper courtesies. As the evening went on Hadrian would make every attempt to engage the gentleman in the festivities.
"Silas, are you enjoying the evening so far?" or "So glad you could join us and witness how the Brujah put a party together." or "Silas, have you heard about how much Carmen has done for the clan?"
Carmen never let her gaze drift over to Silas and never participated in Hadrian's jabs at him. Just as Carmen suspected they were about to endure another display of Brujah accomplishment the prince slowly stands and raises his arms to call for silence. Swiftly the court assembles nicely around the head table and the room goes quiet.
"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome guests from out of town and thank you everyone for attending this nights event hosted by our very own Hadrian of clan Brujah. We always look forward to these moments when we have cause for celebration in these long nights. I will now turn things over to Hadrian to announce our newest addition to the city." The prince joins the crowd in applause as Hadrian stands, nodding and smiling taking in the attention with a look of pure pride on his face.
"Hello everyone!" and more applause.
"Hey BRUJAH!" and more roars and applause, hoots and hollars.
"Tonight we welcome one of our own to the clan in her own right. Plucked from a future not designed for the likes of her. " Hadrian's gaze flits to Silias mockingly and then back to the crowd, " for the past five years Carmen has come far in taking in everything it means to be a Brujah in the Camarilla and has proven herself to city and clan that she is ready for the release. Rise up my childe and be released into our society to take on whatever lies before you!"
Carmen stands up smiling and nodding to everyone as they cheer and applaud. Out of the din the clinking on a glass brings the attention to Silas standing further down the table. Silas sets his glass down and addresses the room.
"Congratulations Ms. Masters, I have no doubts that you will find success in your future. It is with regret that I announce I will be leaving Bristol on a ship this very evening. There is need of capable kindred elsewhere if there are those who would like to join me."
Hadrian opened his mouth to speak but Carmen beat him to it.
"Mr. Boren, if there would be room on the ship for me I would be glad for the company and the journey. It should prove better than I have had as of late."
The utterly confused and bewildered expression on Hadrian's face only made Carmen smile more.
"Carmen, you can't leave, you're my childe!"
"Oh? But I am released and can do as I please." She meets his gaze and as she speaks she starts to remove the long leather coat revealing her nice cut pinstripe suit jacket over a long pencil skirt and a lovely gold satin blouse. " And it pleases me to no end that I am done with you, done with this place, and you can fuck right off straight to hell you prima donna self serving ass, is that Brujah enough for you?" With that she slams the coat down into his hand and scoops up a handful of cake shoving it in his face. While Hadrian stands there shocked she cleans her hand with a napkin and walks around the table to meet Silas.
She never even looked back as Silas, some others, and her walked out of the court to the waiting ship.
