I am here to officially announce my candidacy for . . . . not running for HST this time around.
Quite a few of you know that I had been planning an HST run this time, and had gone so far as to recruit a staff and do a lot of work (with quite a few gracious and hard working people) putting together a comprehensive platform for what I'd like to see from the game. Sadly, our recent loss hit me pretty hard. Like, sitting in my bathrobe in the dark for a few weeks hard. I don't currently have the emotional bandwidth to really give the game what I feel that it deserves, so I decided to not run this time around.
So, I'm sitting here with a platform all reared and ready to go, but don't have the energy to go to the dance. I've decided that after the election, I'm going to rip off the veil and show everyone what I've been thinking. That way I'll have as much time to get feedback and think about things as I'd like. I'm waiting until after the election because I want to allow each of the candidates thus far the breathing room to shape their own platforms without pushing the conversation in any direction. I definitely don't fault Chris at all for his posts, they were well thought out and got people talking about areas that hadn't been discussed yet. (It helps that I agree with a chunk of it ) Mine, however, is a massive fucking tome that is going to take a long time to digest, so I thought I'd save it until people aren't trying to make a giant decision already.
I DO want to say, however, that this is the first election in a long, long time where we've had so many candidates and so many people invested in shaping the game. That is exciting as hell. We have a TON of people that feel VERY strongly about the game, and want to make it the best game they can. I'm not just talking about candidates on the staffs, either. This election is really demonstrating the commitment that so many people feel toward the community and the blood sucking that brings us all together.
But, in this time of high spirits, it's extremely easy to go overboard. Before you take a swing at the worthless bag of dicks who is obviously a complete idiot online, take a deep breath and remember that you both spend your Saturday evenings playing paper/rock/scissors together. I think that we can all agree that our government is great negative example for us - don't be them. Let's not demonize each other in the passion of our beliefs.
A few weeks ago, I watched dozens and dozens of people reach out to each other when something terrible happened. Remember that just a few weeks ago, whoever you're angry at was probably holding onto someone that was sobbing uncontrollably, or staying up until 3 in the morning to make sure that people were ok. We are more than Potence vs. Thaumaturgy, and we are more than Camarilla vs. Anarch vs. Sabbat.
We are more than vampires.
