People say the truth is relative. Based in perception, subject to interpretation, and fundamentally unknowable. But we know that one Cainite saw it all once.
People say the truth is relative because they cannot even come close to understanding, to seeing, to expressing in pale language the Truth. The best use art, music, dance or stories to capture the tiniest fragments, but they are rarely understood.
Truth seems relative because each person can only see one tiny speck, one grain, one facet reflecting the blinding light of it, and they think that what they see must be the whole. Or, if they are somewhat wiser, they know it is a fragment, but think it is so much larger a piece than it actually is.
The Truth is our Gift. The Truth is our Curse.
What happened to you when you died in the Embrace of your Sire? What did you see? What did you feel? Children of Malkav see the Truth in that moment. Some turn away in fear, some stare in awe and loose themselves to it, but either way they awake, reborn tormented by the memory of that one moment of perfect Truth.
The world we live in is made of lies. The lies we tell each other. The lies we tell the Kine. The lies they tell us. The lies we tell ourselves. Keep it safe, keep it sane, make it make sense only don’t look at what is really going on.
Each brick, each drop of blood, each mote of dust - lies.
You cannot survive without them.
But when you begin to see the truth, the lies unravel. The world no longer makes sense. This is Madness.
There is a saying among the Children of Malkav: ‘When you find yourself falling into Madness - DIVE” Just look at the stories, there is no way to the Truth but through the Madness that is the deconstruction of Lies. Do not fight it, nor seek to return to deceitful Ignorance. Embrace the elimination of Lies with Joy and Peace.
Her world since moving to Seattle had been slowly declining into Madness, but for the first time, she saw the way forward as through. If the facade of Lies that kept the world still for so long was falling away, and what else could this be? Every conceivable creature of myth and history and many she would care not to conceive of had found its way to her doorstep. Should she arise the next night to see a centaur striding down the street, she would not be surprised.
But now she felt peace and joy. Sophia’s wisdom, the Truth the Caine shared with Malkav, and more… of course it was too big for this material world. And these signs told her now that she was closer than ever to opening the next eye and seeing what else was out there.
