As far as general feelings on the events if the last week, I reserve
judgment. Everything seems to be going more or less in a positive
direction, so I suppose I should be cheering, waving green flags and
singing Prince Bella's praises, but I'll give it at least another month or
two before I join her choir. Or rather, before I found one to sing her
praises, since I'm fairly certain she doesn't have one.
A former independent has heard the call of responsibility and duty (not to
mention prudence and logic on the chopping block) and decided to join the Camarilla. The newly christened Lidia
Maurice, named for the Prince that offered her sanctuary even before she
knew it was necessary, spoke her oaths to uphold the Traditions at court
last week. Lidia has left behind her old name entirely, and is now seen as
Caitiff, both in the eyes of the Camarilla and in those of her former
family. In the immense kindness of our hearts, those of us in Clan
Nosferatu resident beneath Seattle have accepted Lidia Maurice. So
incredibly accepting, in fact, that we didn’t even make her go through the
time-honored rituals of acceptance and adoption into the world below
(though there was some grumbling when some of those assembled realized they
were not going to get to watch the gorgeous Lidia Maurice stick her face
into a cauldron of acid). I am told that her former clan will not target
her in any way (as such would now break some agreement or other) provided
that she does not release any of the secrets of said family (which I’m
certain does not in any way imply that clan would consider violating the
aforesaid agreement in order to strike at a particularly irritating member
of the Camarilla, whatever that Kindred was doing).
The contest I announced in the previous report was well-received by the
domain at large, and I heard much interest from all levels of Kindred
society. Among the most vocal were the Court and Council. Perhaps we shall
have a similar contest amongst them next month, as so many seemed disappointed that they were barred from direct participation. If I do host
a "heavyweight" class of the contest, it will be a secondary event to the
first, and the prizes less grand; after all, the contest is intended to
give Kindred with political aspirations and natural talent a way to
distinguish themselves and earn respect and renown. We who hold positions
on the Court or Council obviously have no need to seek further distinction,
and so such contests between Court and Council should be as a game between
friends. Perhaps I shall evolve some new rules to keep things interesting,
like teams or taking the value of the boon into account for scoring.
The Prince has informed the Court that she desires an event to be held on
the tenth of May. She wishes that it have something to attract the interest
of all in her Domain. I consider this to be the first test of the new
Keeper and her Host. As yet, the only event we have heard will take place
is an art gallery created by famed sculpture artist Lily Carver, who will
also be doing a performance piece at the event itself. I am sorry to say
that I was away during miss Carver's performance before the court of
London, but I have heard from several sources that it was spectacular, and
the work I have seen of hers lives up to the accounts that I have heard of
that event.
In conversation with Will Scarlet, I have learned rather more of him and of
Yin Mao. Scarlet told me a tale of Chase Covington, a Brujah elder I had,
of course, heard of. However, I learned that Covington was not the shining
example of honor and tradition I had thought him to be. It turns out that
Chase Covington was executed by the Prince of Seattle of the time for
breaking all of the Traditions. This was either not well-publicized or the
Prince and Harpy in question failed to make it known that they disapproved
of Covington's actions, as I had only heard he had been executed on some
nebulous charge or another. Scarlet went on to tell me of his close
friendship to Covington's childe, apparently known only
as "Mike". After
his sire was duly executed, Mike was delivered to Covington's sire, Urea,
whom I have also heard of, though not lately, the reason for which is now
made plain. It seems that Mike Diablerized her not long after their arrival
in Ireland. Mike has recently returned to the Emerald Domain (or rather,
the Barony of Tacoma), and it is expected that we shall soon hear of the
true weight of the Anarchs' idealized justice. Scarlet suggested that his
actions in not hunting Mike were a recommendation of his self-control, but
I feel that one must do rather more to redeem themselves in the eyes of the
Camarilla than simply obey the prince's express will vis-a-vis attacking
Anarchs.
Yin Mao, it seems, is not Hamza's retainer at all, but rather the personal
chattel of Justicar Tygerious, who has loaned her to our Seneschal at this
time. Scarlet claims that the entire affair of his courting Yin Mao is a
miscommunication between himself and the Seneschal, but that he is
perfectly eager to court her, since he does have the permission of such
powerful men. I am left to wonder why Tygerious trusts Will Scarlet to hold
to his honor, considering his recent history with relationships.
Personally, I doubt that I would find her to be so attractive an option,
considering the possibility of inciting the displeasure of Tygerius by
failing to have her home by three.
