Marcus stood looking around. Everything was quiet except for the sounds of nature. Construction had finished for the moment, allowing Marcus to fully take in the area. He took a long lingering breath as he walked slowing through the area. It looked both different and the same as what he had envisioned. Papers and drawing plans hardly did it justice, not once one could walk around the reality.
This was hardly the sort of area one would normally find the CEO of the Colson Corporation. It was not a board room, or in any of the departments that he frequented time to time. It wasn’t a rented office, or a high rise view. It was not urban in any sense of the word, which was more than reasonable since they had left the suburbs a while ago.
He could see the lights of construction in the distance. There was a lot of work going on, all over the place. But this area would remain, much how it was, if a bit cultivated. Marcus ran his hand along a tree, and on to a rock feeling the moss move softly along his fingers, careful not to apply to much pressure. This area of nature was something he had been hoping for when the planning had been going on, and now it was real.
As he walked down the path made of small rocks he looked out to the sad trailing through some areas. Trees were around, both naturally from the area, and some other special selection. Off to the side there was a small grove of rowan trees that had a small creek moving through it. Another section there were a series of rock gardens, sand and grass accompanying them. Even a small pond in the center of it all before getting to the edge where the lake truly began.
After a bit, he walked over to the buildings. Most of them were just open air shelters. Some solar panels gave what lights the area had power. The nearest building to him was actually formulated to be a board room of sorts. A place to use when out of business retreats and the like. Marcus took a seat, looking out from the head of the table.
It was not everything that Marcus hoped it would be down the line. It was still growing, just recently even opened, it was just fledgling. But Marcus could already feel the retreat serving its purpose. Sure there was nearly endless work to be had around, but here even not complete was a place for rest.
“Not a place complete, but a place to be complete. A stop along the way to progress. How many see it that way though. All of the people getting caught up in their moments. Kindred or Kine, so much bogs progress. Humanity and Cainite alike have found great ways to get in their own way.”
Marcus had been making a bit of a habit of talking to himself more these days, much like he would often see things that were on his mind. Things he would often take for granted, not always remembering that others would not actually be able to see the things he did.
“And, at cost to. Many would be willing to deprive others for the sake of a little gain, sometimes even loss in their own right. Why? For the sake of apparent wining. Winning is not growth or progress. Progress, growth, profit, these things must be developed. Hopefully, down the line more will see it. But so many have such twisted views of these things, making things complicated for the sake of complication. Fools… They just don’t understand.”
