Henrietta stood in the shadows, smelling the blood before she saw the tears. She did not know exactly what was going through her grandmother's mind, but she had a guess. The empty room.
It had been a shock to them both, more so for Alixandra. Henrietta was hurt, and the wounds would take a long time to heal, but Alixandra was hurting worse. This was hard on her, thus why she hadn't left her grandmother's side since then. She had fallen asleep every morning with her arms wrapped around the small woman in a desperate act to give some comfort. She knew it didn't help, but the tears flowed less often, and the healing that would take much longer had begun. Hopefully.
Alixandra turned her back to the window, and Henrietta decided to stay in the shadows. They both had their thoughts, and that was more than enough company for now.
