The vampire walked into the hotel room and slid the latch into place. With a sigh at the reddening sky, he pulled a phone from his pocket.
"Hello?" came the voice across the line.
"Hey, it's me," he spoke into the phone.
"Sup?"
"Normal update is all. Didn't find his haven yet, and he didn't-" he paused, thinking for the word.
"That's not so good. You think he'll do it again?"
"It's been almost weekly for a month now. If he doesn't have a patsy set up by now for when the heat's on, he's cocky and dumb."
"Right... Anything you need?"
The vampire smiled. This was almost getting too easy. "I think I am set up personally. Have you got the cash for the place yet?"
"All I have to do is go to the bank when we need it. How much are we going to need?"
He cussed. Another phone call to make tomorrow.
"I'll get you that number soon. We may want to scout out a ditch somewhere that we can stash him out of sunlight until we have time and a place."
"I don't think a ditch is going to do it.... do you know anyone that might help and look the other way?"
"I'll keep an ear to the ground, but my some of my allies are some of those we'll be keeping him from."
"I know. I still haven't talked to 'you know who' about it yet."
The vampire smiled again. It was awakening his love of intrigue to hear his compatriot taking on such a role with it. "Good. Keep quiet about it until absolutely necessary."
The daysleep started to tug at his heart. He couldn't help but yawn. It was getting earlier these nights. Hopefully just overadjusting for summer.
"Look," he said, "the sun's rising. Tomorrow night."
"Ok, just call me."
"Right."
He hung up the phone and stared angrily at the barely pink sky. This was starting to get irritating. With a grunt, he forced himself to his feet to prepare for waiting out the sun.
