So many kindred in Elysium, walking from day to day, plotting their plots and spinning their lies. Looking for something to do, something to steal their mind away from their doomed existence. So many kindred hiding their secrets in desperate hope that nobody will know who they really are, what they really want.
Arlo grinned. Everybody thought that if they didn't say anything, they couldn't be found out. Fools.
One word breaks the code of silence,
Silence tells me all I need to know.
One Word,
One Word, tells me everything I need to know.
His clan was doing nicely in Elysium recently. Randall, Daddy, now Catie/Regan... Malkavians were doing well. Belonging to a clan as fragmented as the Malkavians often were felt... odd, at times. These times when they showed their unity and strength were refreshing. And dangerous. Arlo glanced around at the various clan arrangements in Elysium. How many of them knew how dangerous blind unity was? And how precious true unity was?
Arlo sighed. He needed to pay more attention to his clan again. Changes were coming.
One word driven in to madness,
Madness driven by the depths below.
One Word,
One Word, tells me everything I need to know.
That was life. Stand around in Elysium, leaning against a wall, being scary, watching, waiting for somebody to screw up so you could save them. Save the city. Save the world.
Arlo was sick of the responsibility. Always watching, always waiting, always thinking. There was no time for life, for living. What living they could do. What happened to love? He fingered the scars on his left wrist. What happened to his love? Why did the world fail him? How can he save Regan and Angus?
And thus the responsbility stays. Because failure is not an option.
It's not the way that I want it,
It's just the way that I need it.
Day after day
It's not the way that I want it,
It's just the way that I need it.
Day after day
Except for those who make a mockery of their responsibility. Those who would use their status and position to manipulate the lives of others. Manipulation, fine, that's easy. He did it occasionally too. But to throw around a political background instead of honestly tricking them and arranging plans... to waste the time of the city to such ends... Arlo snarled.
Everybody lies. Kindred nature, was it?
Sometimes lies told more than the truth they hid. How people avoided the subject said more about the subject than if they opened up and admitted their faults.
Arlo wondered how many people knew the lies he knew.
One lie tells a thousand stories,
The greatest stories that were ever told.
One Lie,
One Lie, tells the greatest stories ever told.
Some changes were needed. So many people in positions they didn't know how to use, so many plots using people they didn't need. People needed to change. Now, who would help him change the world?
Angus, of course. Hideo, possibly, if he could run things right. Catie was doing nicely, she'd probably love to help.
And of course, Daddy.
One man can predict the future,
a future journey in to outer space.
One Man,
One Man, a future journey in to outer space.
Why _was_ Daddy here, after all? It couldn't be for the Cathayans- they were a threat, but not yet. They could be a reason Daddy was in Seattle, but not now, not this soon. Something must be time dependent.
Arlo blinked. Regan. Catie's interaction with Angus was time dependent, that was the whole reason she came to Arlo in the first place.
Of course. So Daddy came to help with the Cathayans, but came _now_ in order to save Catie. Which means that Catie's more important than even she knows. I wonder if Angus knows. If he's connected to her...
Oh. Oh, my. He's not connected to her, she's connected to _him_. It's Angus that's important. The speaker for the unaligned, of course. Daddy's manipulating the speaker position. High level Camarilla politics and they'll never see it. I wonder...
I'm going to need to help Angus. And Daddy. I'm going to need to protect them.
I can't do that here. I can't do that now. Something's going to need to change.
I'm going to have to step down as Master Strategist.
Heh. My responsibility will be fulfilled by giving up my responsibility. It's almost worthy of a malkavian.
Arlo grinned. Everybody thought that if they didn't say anything, they couldn't be found out. Fools.
