A mission. And from an unusual source, as well.
How very odd. She had made it clear that others were interested, yet she had pulled it out in full public view. So her possession of it was public knowledge. A joke?
And yet, the members of that clan were not known for their sense of humor. Possibly a test.
The rest of the evening had been boring in comparison. Yes, the introductions in a new city were always important, and set the tone by which further contact would normally follow. Pleasant as it had been to meet the fellow members of his new city - certainly the fact of his new Primogen's fame could open doors if needed - there was real pleasure in the fact of receiving a commission so very soon. He had not expected a mission for weeks. And such a fascinating job it seemed. His skills would be used and appreciated here.
An item such as this one would certainly test his abilities, given the limitations placed on him by his lack of contacts in the city as yet.
Of course, he did have potential allies here. The Seneschal - amusing that she had been roped into that sort of job, and yet it suited her personality so very well. She appeared very much at ease; and when he had tested her by blocking her view, her response had been wonderfully impersonal. It was amusing that she seemed to have found something as pleasing to her as his research could be to him. He had not actually seen her in a few years, yet she was a useful contact and had certainly found him to be so.
He felt himself smile in anticipation. As always when excited by the prospect of a new commission, his fangs were unusually sensitive, making the lips' tug over them deliciously sensuous.
Dinner first, he thought. Then on to work. He stood, thoughts moving beyond the mundane daily tasks to the realm of thought, reason, and intuition, considering how best to begin.
