Cora stared incredulously at her dorm room. Every little last thing was the same. Her roomie's neat, perfectly-arranged half of the room with every single stuffed animal and embroidered pillow. Cora's half of the room with not a single piece of cyclone-organized papers and books missing.
With a sigh, Cora hung up her sword up on the underside of her lofted bed. She shook her head, this was all just too much. A new dimension that looked exactly the same as home, except it wasn't. And they might never be able to return back to their real homes. It made no sense.
Sitting on Cora's desk beside the computer was a pile of half-finished Biology lab reports. She'd slacked off a lot the past quarter, adventures and Changeling life taking precedent. The papers were all still sitting there, though; even in a new dimension, there they were. Cora made an angry bird noise: disgruntled that the alternate life she'd been given couldn't at least have come with straight A's.
Cora climbed up into her bed, debating sleep. Sleeping at the freehold had not been nearly enough. She'd not slept well. The definite proof that life in the new dimension was carrying on like normal: she was still having the nightmares. They were worse than they usually were, and harder to wake up from. The angry, leering face. The burning pain of cold iron cutting into her again and again. She shuddered and pulled the blankets over her, rubbing her arms to ward off the dream-pain. Sleep would be so good right now ... if it were nightmare free.
Cora massaged her forehead and ran her hands through her feathers. Okay, going home wasn't an option right now ... unless they all wanted to die like they'd been prophesied. Give that some time, maybe a way home would present itself in the future. Here and now, this moment: what was she going to do? Cora rolled over and stuck her pillow over her head. This was all getting too complicated. She didn't like deciding things, or being in charge. She was in this for the jokes, the thrills, and the truth.
Cora glanced back down at her pile of half-written homework. Fuck. Time to take on some responsibility. Changeling or not, she needed and wanted this degree. If she got all the work done as soon as she could, she might scrape together some passing grades. She settled her pillow properly, debating which assignment to tackle first. She caught herself yawning and shrugged ... hmm. Well, it could wait until after a nap. Maybe she'd have nightmares but maybe not. And she was certain that a nice nap would make her better able to work on homework. Yeah, that made sense. Naptime!
