First off, thank you all for your questions. The whole point of this endeavor is to clear up misunderstandings, and questions are a part of that.
Just a friendly reminder, please also keep all your questions in this thread, rather than posting in the Discipline Clarification thread itself. Thank you.
"It has been a house rule for a while that succeeding at the Courage check for Majesty does not allow the person to attack the Majesty user, just to act disrespectful. In the clarification posts it says "act normally" - are you revoking that house rule?"
Sean can supersede me here, but I would assume that these new house rules overrule the previous ones.
"1. Why the diff 10 to realize you are being summoned? Corollary: Does Kindred Lore reduce the diff in any way?"
Presence is described in the book as being the most subtle of powers, and only very clever kindred even realized they are under its effects. Thus, high diff while affected and the requirement of kindred lore to act against it. Plus this should cut down on people trying to legal their way around it and/or tell their IC friends to help them, as its hard to know its not natural.
2. Why is Presence being house ruled to lower diffs on non-supernatural social rolls?"
There is a whole paragraph talking about how vampires with Presence seem alluring and persuasive, even when not using their powers. Then it gives no rules. We felt it was neat to give the flavor text a real meaning, and fits with the power immensely.
"So, in the Majesty Clarification, you say if they attack a person, the majesty stops affecting that one, but affects everyone else. So, if the guy defends himself by punching back, maybe drawing a sword to parry, etc, suddenly everyone else piles on him as well?"
If it seems like he has any real chance at hurting the Majesty user, then yes that is correct.
"Since Presence has had some changes that have made its functionality unclear, could Pavis of Foul Presence's functionality be addressed at this time instead of with the rest of the Thaum stuff?"
I should hope that these make the functionality of disciplines more clear, not less. Otherwise Sean is doing all this work for nothing. I understand that Pavis is one of the glaringly broken things about Thaum that needs a severe looking over. But once we start down the road of blood magics, there isn't going to be any turning back. Its too huge, and in the priority list, if the rest of the discipline clarifications don't get down first, they are going to get lost and put off forever. Maybe Sean will change his mind for this one, but that's the general reason we're not attacking thaumaturgy just yet.
"What's the diff on the courage roll for majesty? If it's diff 6, can you help me feel like Majesty isn't pretty close to worthless, since all starting characters start with 1 success? (Courage 2)"
As per the core book, the difficultly to resist for the courage roll is the Majesty user's Charisma+Intimidation
